Help :( **update**
Previous thread deleted so this is just a quick update.
Took the car into the garage today and they plugged in there diagnostic machine. It said there was a misfire on 1 & 4. He changed the plugs and it was still the same. He says it's probably the coil pack so he's going to replace that after this bank holiday weekend. I should get my car back on Tuesday so I am stuck with a 06 diesel polo! |
It would of given the code if it was the coil pack . My one did
|
Hmm, I won't get my hopes up for getting the car back on Tuesday then! Wonder what it could be?
|
For anyone that didn't read the last thread here's w hat happened
I bought my 2003 sti less than 2 weeks ago. The garage told me it has a decat and filter and bov, but hasn't been remapped. But it wouldn't affect the car. The engine management light was on and he said it only comes on because the lamba sensor pics up false readings because of the decat or something. After going a run, The car was struggling a bit so I pulled in and the whole car was shaking. The engine was rocking and it was like it was firing on 3. So the garage took It in today to check it |
Also it's used about half a litre of oil since I got it :s is that normal?
|
if you got it from a dealer, i would be after my money back

If it were me, i would be fighting to get my money back if its still under warranty or at the very least be looking at a different vehicle they can do a swap for. No new car ownership should not be this painful! |
Shouldn't use that much oil mate, sounds like you have bought a lemon. Get you're money back if you can.
|
Half a litre of oil in two weeks !!!!!!
NO, that is certainly not normal buddy. That car has got far worse problems than a dodgey coil pack that's for sure. Don't let the dealer fob you off, it's got a serious issue that must be rectified. |

Thats a huge about of oil consumption, what fuel a rev you/have you been using in it ?
cheers bob |
my 04 sti doesnt use a single drop of oil. also i had a coil pack fail on it a while back and it throws up a code telling you which one it is.
sounds like the car has serious engine problems too me. lack of remap or using normal 95 ron fuel possibly causing running lean and damaging pistons or valves. |
I've been using 97 in it. The guy at the garage said it would run fine on 95 as long as its from bp/shell and not from a supermarket.
So the chanc.es are, after he replaces the coil pack, car will be the exact same? |

I think that shows how stupid the garage in question is! How can Shell 95 ron be any better than Tesco or Asda 95 Ron ffs! What a load of tripe :lol1:
This is my first turbo car so I don't know a thing about them except what people have told me on here |
Oooops my bet crap fuel and idiot driving has killed it

My advice is give the car back and get a refund as its been run on crap fuel which will and probably already has killed it.
Then dont drive at 130 mph on public roads as idiots like you generally end up killing innocent motorists and not themselves unfortunately. |
So you've never broken the speed limit on a quiet straight stretch of motorway with no on or off ramps? Fair enough I shouldn't of been going fast but you've made your point in the last thread. Is there any need to go on about it?
The car is on finance and I traded another car in aswel. I don't know if it's even possible to undo?? Surely he will need to fix whatever is wrong with it? |
If it had a warranty then yes. I would be very suprised if the engine hasnt got serious damage if run on poor fuel.
If you were running at high speed on boost for a period of time this is what may have damaged it as the scoop isnt very effective at high speed and the build up of temperature could be terminal on the engine and the poor fuel will only add to det problems |
Wow I had no idea. This guy deals with mostly subarus and evos and other imports. I wonder why he told me it was ok to use 95? And you would think he would of known it needed a remap aswell. This is going to fry my brains untill it's sorted :(

There's one thing moving these cars on for a profit - it's something completely different knowing about them and being an expert:wonder:
Just because he sells them doesn't mean he knows what he's talking about and your experience proves that point!! |
It should have a sticker inside fuel flap saying something like 98 ron only.
I would get a compression test done on the cylinders and not accept car back until its running correctly. The oil usage is pointing to serious issues too. My 04 sti doesnt use a drop. Not a very good specialist as i had an evo a few years ago and these should only use 99 ron fuel.too |
He's not just car sales tho, he's a garage as well. He does a lot of work on these cars too. I have a receipt for my car saying it had a full engine rebuild, new turbo, crankshaft, conrod, bearings etc for £3000. He just serviced mine the day I got it too. You'd think he would know them inside out
|
Engine rebuild and CEL on, double alarm bells - sounds like whatever caused it to need the first engine rebuild may not have been fixed, or the rebuild was bodged:wonder:

Get money back. Plenty of good ones out there. Wouldnt trust a specialist who tells you decat needs no remap,95 ron fuel is fine and major oil usage is normal. All above are lies. Wouldnt want an engine built by him, thats if it has been done at all |
Regardless of what the fuel flap may say, a uk car legally has to be able to run 95 ron.

As I said in the deleted thread, If it's a full de-cat and he supplied the car with an MOT, he's knowingly sold you a car that's technically illegal. If this is the case, he could hardly refuse you a refund which is what I would strongly advise you to persue. JohnD |
