What coilovers for 53 sti

As above I have a 53 sti the suspension is standard the rear shocks are knocking a little so I'm thinking about changing to coilovers but I am in sure what ones to buy?*

Bcs get my vote , just sofened my yesterday with a wee twist of the knobs ;)

Only issue they gave me is they squeak over speed ramps (sounds like a small dog barking in the distance), still better than the dreaded "clunk"

Any boby got a link on who to buy from or some info so I can have a read

What are your reasons for wanting to go coilover? What use does your car get mainly? Track days, or mainly road use?

The advantage, in general with coilovers is the dampers are shortened so that you do have more travel at lowered ride heights compared to using stock struts and lowering springs. However not all are created equal. There are several popular low priced coilovers out there right now, that I'm personally not a huge fan of. But its hard to beat the price as they seem to tick all the popular bells and whistles that people want. But I wouldn't be caught dead with them on my car :lol1:. I think for most people looking for a proper handling setup that doesn't cost 2k GBP, you can't beat a good fixed perched damper and quality spring. Its too bad that there are not as many options out there for the Impreza in the UK. Even new age Impreza's have limited damper choices. Only the bug eye has any real selection that fit properly.

BC's everyday, had mine for 3 years.
Great set-up for the road and far far better than the subaru/KYB rubbish fitted as std.
Do the right thing and get some :)

The car is a second car used some times for nipping to the gym but mainly it's used for going out so I don't have to drive the shed on wheels that is the passat estate and for me to drive with a smile on my face

For a road car, BC's with a 5/4 spring rate. Set to around 16-18 front and 6-8 rear and you'll be very happy!

The mistake people make when getting coilovers is too go for a too hard srping rate thinking harder = better, for the road it's the opposite.

Are they supplied with 5/4 as default or 6/5?

I`m pretty sure that`s my exact setup and it`s great for everyday use :)

I have 6 front and 5 rears on my 03sti, call apex and they will sort you out. I have the later mod with rubber rear top mounts and tapered rear springs. It's a VERY good setup.

Just had mine fitted after Tommy's recommendation, had them on a week and they are brilliant.

I have just had my fast road geo set up by James and Greenwood Racing and the car handles very well.

Very happy indeed.

I've put them on my shopping list to be done before summer
