changing radiator 2001 wrx

hi all, was wondering if anyone on here had done this, is it as easy as simple as unbolting the old and putting in new and then topping up with coolant.... Sounds far to easy to be true

Also is there a coolant anybody can recommend

thanks ppl

If your standing over your engine then it would be on your left hand side a bolt on the rad were you drain the rad from, loosen that let it drain out.

Loosen the bolts holding it in place on the top,Undo all the pipes and just slide it up.

Put new rad in place, put pipes back on,tighten the bolts make sure drain bolt is also tight re fill with all season anti freeze and job should be done pretty easy really.

Yeah is really is quite a simple job.

Take your time refilling the system to try and reduce chance of air pockets.

I use std Shell green antifreeze in mine, you should try to use the same as already in the engine unless you are changing all of the coolant.

Tip: remove the rear-most rubber hose from the top metal coolant tank, (header tank).

Refill using a funnel down this: DO NOT let it "glug".

Mine took around 20 minutes to fill.

All new antifreeze is good. Don't worry about the colour, use the correct TYPE, a decent motor factor will sell you the right stuff.

And when you source a new rad, refit the fans etc using all stainless bolts. M6 x 20.
