My standard intercooler's looking quite mashed from what I presume are stones deflected onto it by the bonnet scoop. I've seen intercooler protectors (effectively a piece of wire mesh) advertised - are these any good.

If so, are any in particular recommended and are they easy to fit (I'm never very keen if it involves getting a drill out - too many opportunities for a cock up!)

Anyone?

Dave, they do work. The simplest is the one that fits under the scoop. Those that fit to the intercooler itself get clogged with dead bugs and are a sod to clean.

There is a thought that the mesh interferes with air flow.

GGR used to do them in stainless steel, not too expensive. Undo the screws holding the black plate under the scoop and slide the mesh in in. You will need a slot in the mesh where the air flow is split between intercooler and the top of the turbo. You could make your own to fit in the same place (B&Q gutter-guard).

hi.....i made one up myself....i bought red anodised mesh with 10mm parted holes from my car parts shop and cut it to suit, but flanged the bottom up ( like a C section ) and simply just dropped it on the intercooler so only the two ends were the only thing touching the i.c.....i have had a lot of people say it looks sweet as it hides the ratty looking i.c underneath it too...i have not noticed any loss of performance

Thanks guys

Think I'll go see if I can get some sheap mesh first - failing that I feel some money heading GGR's way!
