Gearbox Oil change

hi all

going to service the car before mapping and little unsure on the gearbox oil change, only had a quick look but how would i drain the oil stuff out, put the new stuff in and also what oil should i be using? its a classic 1999 WRX which will be running some nice power (fingers crossed)

any help would be great :thumb:

There's a drain plug at the bottom and you fill it through the dipstick tube.

As for oil, I've heard good things about Castrol Universal 75w-90 semi-synthetic oil (formerly Castrol Syntrax universal) and that's why I'm using it in my car.

Be aware that changing to fresh fluid sometimes makes the change even notchier than usual when cold.

The Castrol universal is a pretty safe bet. I had a MY99 (uk model) and changed to full synthetic (Silkolene Syn 5 ) but experienced crunching from 4th to 5th at high revs. Changing to Castrol semi-synthetic cured the problem.

redline lightweight shockproof gear oil, 75w90, available from Opie oils (google it). told its the best box oil you can get.
I would also consider millers cfs 75w90 synthetic if the 18.99 a quart for redline is too much to pay ;)

As stated above drain-plug at bottom of gearbox, fill through the dipstick tube.

how much do i need?

the box i think is on its last legs and once mapped i can see me replacing it when i have the clutch done, i hope new oil will give me some more time :norty:

make use you undo the fill plug first , the last thing you want is to train the GB and find you can't refill it (experience talking here)

There is no fill plug. You need a long tube from a 1 litre bottle down to the dipstick hole. 3.5 litres IIRC
