Stalling

This morning on the drive to work the car stalled as I got to the bottom of a hill. The idle seemed a touch irratic after that for a short while but when I got to work 10 minutes later all seems fine again.

Is it possible that a bit of gunk has worked its way though IAC Valve. Also had a P0261 (Injector 1 volts low I think) fault code when I started the car, but I cleared that and it hasn't come back. Could it just be that as the fuel tank was nearly empty it is just a bit of cack that has gone through the system.

I know mate, but it's 4 flights of stairs to get out of the hole I'm in to get my phone:eek:

Okay, changed the TB with all of the sensors, had FB look it over for any air leaks and tweak the map to raise the idle to ~850rpm and it's still not right. Problem is intermittent but generally worse the higher the revs are when I dip the clutch:wonder:

I'm going to clean out the DV next to make sure it's closing properly - it's an after market recirc DV to fit with the FMIC, turbosmart so a decent one and not a cheap egay special.

After that I'm baffled - any tips will be welcomed:thumb:

Anyone:wonder:

Fuel filter swapped, MAF changed and ECU reset and it will still stall. I'll run it over the next couple of days to see if it settles on the run and give the ECU time to relearn any tolerances. I also changed the front O2 sensor a year or so back so not sure what to look at next:wonder:

Hi Jon,
Im probably going to sound really daft but.. I had a similar problem before on my classic STI4 it would stall after revs or in traffic, I ended up with a 950/1k Iddle this seemed to stop it, (it would just catch before stall and return to idle at 950 980 odd)
It was mapped with a pfc etc so could adjust the Idle in car,
The problem developed over time, it wasnt apperent after mapping (car was fitted with front mount, dv etc...
My problem turned out to be the ICV, blasting wd40 and brake cleaner through it didnt help either as I recall though I have read that it can.

slap me if this is no help and im being daft !! (Im a n00b!)

Dave.

First thing I changed was the complete throttle body as it was easier and cheaper than a new IACV, it made no difference so unless I have been really unlucky with 2 equally bad IACVs it's not that (this is what Rich @ FB though it might be when he had a quick look - couldn't find anything else obvious). I have already had the idle tweaked from 750rpm to 850rpm which has improved the situation. My old IACV had some oil residue but it was plenty free enough and I soaked it in petrol and cleaned it out. I'm going to get a new gasket and refit the IACV to the new TB and see what that does although I doubt it will be that. A new IACV from Subaru is ~£300:eek:

have you whipped the plugs out and checked them? also see if they are all the right colour, are the injectors standard ?

JonMc 21 April 2012 09:34 PM

Not done the plugs, it runs fine apart from the stalling and has been hooked up to my mappers laptop which showed nothing so I doubt the plugs will show anything either. Injectors are standard and haven't been touched.
