Afaik Ver 1 to 6 only applies to classic STI's from Japan? Most peeps refer to Model Years which is easier to understand ...

Versions only are applicable to JDM STI's, from version 2 to version 6, that is an MY96/97/98/99/00 (2/3/4/5/6), they dropped the versions for the new age cars due to the fact they had several different cars out to different markets.
There are "phases" for classics, MY93-96 are phase 1, 97&98 are phase 1.5 and MY99/00 are phase 2 (also goes for the engines, semi facelift between the MY97 and MY98 where the MY98 looks more like the MY99/00 car with the uprated dash and the MY97 has the older dash but newer front).

Tony:)

Right so to get it right my car is a V reg 1999 uk 2000 turbo awd , which means its a 1999 impreza no version but most or Any version 5 parts will fit is this correct ??

Ginge ! 18 March 2012 11:24 AM

as said versions are just for the japan imports, refer to model year and you will be fine for the uk cars

the versions get confusing if im honest which is even worse when you add that people change the bumpers and spoilers then there is the RA versions to add more issues

i have a V3 STI which is a late 96 early 97 car, that has the old dash board, old bumpers but facelifted bonnet and facelifted but not crystal headlamps,,,,,,, oh and a fuking wanky ecu that nobody can remap too :(

Engine wise you have a phase 2 engine, which all MY99/00 turbo'd cars have, some differences in the STI models to the none STI cars but parts like lower alloy arms etc will fit yours no problems :)
On your car you just go by the model year or MY, but what parts are you after? even some of the older cars parts can be interchangable with your model, but it is best sticking to the same year/phase tbh.

Subaru build model years (MY) do not always coincide with "actual" registered year as the newer model usually arrives in the November of the previous year or a vehicle could be "late" registered (old stock).

The only sure way to confirm the MY is by checking the 10th character of the VIN (excludes JDM models)

1997 - V
1998 - W
1999 - X
2000 - Y
2001 - 1
2002 - 2
2003 - 3

True, my old Spec C was was on a 54 plate but was a MY05 year car so had wider track etc.
