Clicking front brakes
 

Hi, everytime I approach a standstill and apply the brakes I hear a clicking sound from the front brakes..............any thoughts on what this could be? they work fine anyway. Cheers!

Mine does this are you brakes the brembo's? If so they pads move slightly when Touching the discs and makes this noise. Completely normal with this type of caliper.

Thanks, mine are standard WRX Subaru Red calipers, Ive had Godspeed grooved discs and kevlar pads fitted a few thousand miles ago, Ive had em checked and there all fine. I figured it would be the pads moving very slightly when applying the brakes making the click wondered if shims would help? ive even tried making the retaining spring/clip tighter. the click is annoying me a bit!

shims should stop noise , and make sure they are copper greased this helps also, :thumb:

Sorry to hijack the thread.
my turbo 2000 has been doing this the last couple of weeks, have stripped and re-built them twice but still cant find anything wrong?

Slightly different though, mine only does it after i have stopped, then reversed, then when applying the brake after reversing i get a loud click from both fronts?
is this likely to be the same?

Sounds like the the excat same thing I had on my 2005 wrx, the bloke at the garage checked everything out and said becuause the pads were low it was possibly the metal wear indicator spring ??

i saw your thread mate must be doing your head in :brickwall , thought you were given all the advice that i could give ,lol
think yours maybe something different :wonder: however have you put lots of copper grease on, this sometimes stops even loud noises , or fills in gaps , if you know what i meen :thumb:

but all his discs and pads are new , this was half the problem with his own thread , no one read that he had fitted everything new!

Copper slipped to hell mate, i dare not put any more on there or risk them not working at all:lol1:

Cant find any play in anything, brand new disks and pads, all works fine, and stops as it should, so got me really stumped:wonder:

When i get in off nights at 4am, you would swear someone had fired an air rifle it's that sort of click, dead loud.

But never any noise whenever driving forward, it's only ever when i have stopped then reversed:wonder:

Was wondering about shims myself?
My zafira gsi used to have them, so i'm lost with this

Well Ive done some research and it sounds like its the pads biting the disc then moving suddenly in the caliper making the noise, think first step is gonna be making the retaining springs tighter and adding copper slip

Did you say you have the shims in there? My mrs' car was the same and someone had fitted different pads and chucked the metal shims. I fitted new shims and it's been quiet ever since.

No, the good folks I bought em from said that shims weren't necessary however i may have to give em a try........anyone recommend a good supplier?

Just get some second hand ones off here. That'll be you problem then!

What you'll find is that a lot of the non original pads have the shims already attached. My rears make the clicking sound, which are the pads moving around in the calipers.
