I always find the moors pretty bleak at this time of year, all that brown bracken.......
Much nicer in the summer.;) Reminds me of camping one year in the Gorges d Tarn in France, amazing limestone scenery. I got quite friendly with the campsite owner, and one day, told him how lucky he must be to actually LIVE there. His response surprised me: "Lucky? You are joking. From the end of October to the end of March, we don't live HERE, we move to a flat in Millau. HERE you never see the sun as it never rises high enough to see over the edge of the Gorges, and everywhere is bleak, plus it's 20 miles each way to do any shopping because the little shop in the villlage 5 miles away only opens in the tourist season. Do you want to BUY the campsite?" I had never seen it quite that way. |
