What do you think to this?

Hi all new to scooby net, i maybe swapping my electric orange focus st 2006 44k miles for this blobeye impreza
http://pistonheads.com/sales/3702883.htm
It would be straight swap, what are people's thoughts on this impreza?
cheers

It looks OK, go drive it.
Interesting him saying the PPP added brembos, afaik they were standard on STi's from 2002 or so?

When driving it, listen for rattly engine on startup, rattle when warm on revving and releasing throttle, and knocks from the suspension, especially rear.

Look for blue smoke on acceleration. Check oil and water are clean and not frothy or milky.

Check operation of clutch, it's height, and that all gears select properly and aren't stiff.

Feel along the right hand side of the engine lower edge to see if it's oily: if it is, the cam cover oil seal needs replaced.

Ask when the timing belt was done.

Others will be on with more to look for.

Are the running cost similar? how do you find the impreza over the st?

ditchmyster 08 March 2012 10:24 AM

I think the st is slightly worse on fuel, there was a bit of a debate about it a while ago with a few lads that had owned both saying the scoob was cheaper to run, but i doubt theres too much in it as they are both thirsty when you give it some.

As with any car if its well looked after there are very few problems, just avoid main dealers and use one of the specialists off here, or do your own oil changes ect, and they are relatively cheap on servicing costs.

Make sure discs and pads and tyres are good as they are the biggest service cost items, good pads are around £150 and decent tyres are circa £100 per corner, discs you pays your money and takes your choice, and as above make sure your cambelt is up to date and the clutch is good as these are circa £500 each via a specialist.

Happy hunting.:thumb:

the st gives better mpg not huge amounts in it, but then my st is standard and my sti is running arround 340 so not really a fair comparison,

the sti is a harder ride but i have more confidence in going into a corner,

i like the way the st drives but i feel apart from the orange paint its a normal everyday car where as with sti i smile everytime i drive it

My st has full mods, running mod x map and rs injectors. im not sure if ill be loosing out on a straight swap as think st maybe worth more, but not sure what the imprezas go for. Have had a look on pistonheads for rough quide.

DEATHLYREAPER 08 March 2012 11:58 AM

i think the st is worth more that sti is top money for an 03

Link not working for me.....

What do you value the ST at, without knowing more about it id say the Ford is worth somewhere between £6000 and £6500.

its a bit overpriced for an 03 car but looks ok otherwise.
this sti is the same price and a better car as its the widetrack version so has a dccd gearbox and newer style interior.
not a fan of black myself though.

05 is the widetrack version, it has rear wheel arch extensions due to the wider track also the same centre console/heater controls as the hawkeye and most important the dccd gearbox.

DEATHLYREAPER 08 March 2012 04:39 PM

mine is the black widetrack looks great drive is superb nightmare to keep clean lol
