First knocks in 6 second and another two in 21st second. What the hell is that ???

New discs and pads (Godspeed), rebuild 4 pot calipers (new pistons and seals) plus new track rod ends changed today.

Knocks ONLY when braking forward. NO knocks on reverse braking.

have you jacket the car up and took the wheels off and checked the brakes,my scoob was making a similar sound,the pin that holds the break pads came loose so the break pad was moving around,also your pads could be getting low and caching on the retaining pins when you release your break peddle.:thumb:

Hi Pete, I've checked the calipers today when I was changing track rod ends and everything seems to be OK. Pads are nearly new, covered less than 500 miles.
I don't understand how the pin that holding pads could be loose ? You mean two pins, holding pads from each side, right ?

ive had another listen,what i would do is strip the breaks down and start again,copper slip the rear of the pads and where they sit in the calliper,make sure the calliper is tight,copper slip the break pad retaining pins some thing is caching or not releasing properly,my guess it could be the pins:wonder:

yes mate,when my pads get low they make a noise on the pins,i know yours are new,but it sounds like the pads are gripping the 2 pins and retainer plate to me,making it judder if you know what i mean,try copper slip on them.

Another thing is that these knocks are much louder on full left lock, and this sound seems to be coming from left side so... My thoughts were its suspension issue.
Let say that calipers making that knock, why there is no knocks on reverse?

it wont make the noise in reverse because the break disc is going the other way so the pads ect are working in the opposite direction (movement wise)i would say its the pads caching the pins where they go threw the pad into the calliper a bit of metal on metal,its make a loud noise.

Ok Pete, I'll have a look tomorrow and will let you know. Hopefully you're right mate :-) I've got some old pads that came with calipers when I bought them so I'll put them on and see if there is any difference. Of course Copper grease as well :-)

If you've fitted non oem pads to the rear, then they are known to slide around in the calipers and cause clunking.

I fitted some cheap ones on the rear of my car and they occasionally clunk when applying the brakes.

That noise is coming from front calipers. Rears are absolutely fine with no Clunk/knock noises.
TBH I can't believe that moving pads can cause such a sound. It is VERY loud. Like a hammer smack to some metal. I'll check tomorrow with different pads.

I wish myself that pads are an issue, otherwise another headache of trying to sort it out the problem :-(

I have the same knock mate, tried new pads, disks, drop links, coilovers, top mounts etc etc and the noise is still there... I have just learned to live with it as its been like that for over 12 months

Def movement of pads, i have the same with kevlar pads on mine, nothing to worry about just a bit anoying.....

A bit weird to me 'cause I didn't have that noise for first few weeks after fitted calipers with new discs and pads, then I went to car wash and that knock came out straight after. It might be a coincidence but this knocking sound appears after they used high pressure washer to clean the alloys.

Personally I think it's definitely TOO LOUD to live with it. There is defo something wrong and needs to be fixed. NO knocks allowed on my car :-)

If you want to get rid mate just get a pad shim kit from Subaru or importcarparts, you don't get the kit with aftermarket pads.

I've got these fitted.

I had the exact same thing, might not be what you have but mine turned out to be a fractured spring on the front, the reason it only made the knocking noise on braking when going forward is because obviously the front end takes all the downward force, when reversing and braking the rear takes the downward force, anyway, set of new springs sorted it out ;)

Hmmm... That make more sense to me but will check calipers as well. I'm running on Tein S-Tech springs ATM. Do you think if it's possible for these to crack/break ? Stock springs (16 years old) could break but these are fairly new I would say...

Any springs can fracture/crack - are they seated properly? I'm no expert, but i'd be looking at you're front suspension rather than brakes and make sure nothing is untoward there, i'd understand slight noises coming from brakes, but very loud bangs i cant imagine doing so, i'd imagine its something thats taking the force/weight of the car to make that kind of noise. Just my opinion of course...

Mate, I completely agree with you. I started another thread on here https://www.scoobynet.com/suspension...g-forward.html about my problem and my first thought was suspension. I've changed both track rod ends but it didn't help. I bought a pair of lower arm ball joints but not fitted yet. From what I've read on other forums, people had same noises coming from front and it were brake pads causing this but... they were having this type of knock noise when reversing as well and mine does it ONLY when going forward. IMHO (might be wrong) brake pads will be making that noise no matter in which direction you're braking. They work exactly same all the time when pressing brake pedal, right ? I could understand a slightly knocking or clicking noise from calipers but not as loud as you can hear on my video. You can imagine that in reality this knocks are louder than on audio or video file.*

Yeah well ive had brake problems before and its been a ticking/clicking or very low level knocking, not loud like that, the only issues have had loud bangs/knocks with are suspension, so if it was me i'd be having a good look there.

Still hoping that pads making that noise. Definitely LESS work with them than changing suspension - again !

For all of you guys that were saying that pads are the issue, BIG Well Done and Thank You ! You were right ! So, I've changed the pads and everything is OK, with no funny sounds at all :-) Doing this I found that one of the pins is damaged a bit. I'm nearly sure that this was making that knocking sound. What do you guys think ?

I'm talking about that little dent. I think, because of that pads couldn't move/slide freely and were sticking which was leading to knock.

I've had the same noise in mine since I bought it before Xmas......! Time to get the spanners out I think!!!
