Whats is it out of a 2001 wrx?

What is the issue with your engine as you might only need to change some of it, Ie short motor?

There is no top end on a subaru engine, You have the bottom end(short motor) which is usually the bit that goes, Especially if there is no oil in it, Do you have a knocking sound??

Then you have the cylinder heads which fit on either side of this, I take it to a specialist to get a proper diagnosis, There is no way that the bottom end would be OK if it has been running with no oil in it.

You don`t have to be sorry mate,

Youll need another engine or short motor at the least or a rebuild of your current one which consists of new crank, new oil modine, new oil pump and water pump, bearings, gaskets and depending on how bad the damage is possibly rods/pistons/rings too, Depending on the cause of the faliure you might need some machine work done on the heads.

Unfortunately none of which come cheap, Your cheapest option is buying a 2nd hand engine and replacing but you are taking a chance on where it came from and how its been looked after, Strongest replacement would be a Newage Sti short motor for about £7-£800 and then have your bits put on that and back in you motor.

If you do a rebuild its gonna be about £2K done properly with the right parts.

I`m sure one of the builders on here will be along soon and give you a bit more advice,

Gaz.
