Guide to changing handbrake shoes

Anyone know of one? Had a quick look around but cant see one. This is for a classic but guess newage will be exactly the same.

Whats involved once the disc is off?

Once you HAVE the disc off, (and that can be the sticking point ;)), it's just like any brake SHOES.

Start by pushing the pins through while turning through 90 degrees. Once they are off, just dismantle the shoes. I suggest a pic first so you get it all back as was.

You DO have to use the same adjuster mechanism, so again, see how it fits on the leading shoe.

see here https://www.scoobynet.com/wheels-tyr...rake-disc.html

and here https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...c-removal.html

manufacturers instructions here https://www.scoobynet.com/wheels-tyr...rake-disc.html

and ifyou use the search button you will find countless stories of the damage caused by using M8 bolts to jack the discs off without properly slacking off the handbrake shoes.

good luck

:)

Great help! Thanks guys

Done this at the weekend. Had no problems really. Just a bit fidly getting the retaining springs on. Handbrake just starts to bite on 3 clicks and then holds firm on 4.

Only thing I am missing in the inspection covers for adjusting the cog on each wheel. Should I be worried about crap getting in through there?

Probably not at the moment now the salt has gone but I would find some covers before next winter. Can only be pennies from your local breaker.
