Low compression please help
Hi everyone. I have a problem and need help. I am the owner of STI 04 standard for 3 months. Car done 35k miles. After measuring the compression on one of the cylinders is zero, for the three remaining a bit over 10. Engine oil and coolant is ok. Please advice where to go check compression around cambridge as I dont belive it was done properly and that someone realizes what might be happening? What should I expect? If the head is broken where to go to repair the engine? I have been told it mayby a valve.
Thank you Daniel |
what made you check the compression?? i.e wouldnt start etc?
|
if thats an accurate reading then thats a catastrophic failure, might be worth getting it redone , could be a number of things, i had low compression on a 2004 sti but that only caused a low reading in cylinder 4 which was a worn valve seat.

why did you do a compression check? what reason?
|
Ok. Yesterday check engine flashed. The car was not working on one cylinder. Checked foult code- missfire on 2. Replaced cooil pack because the last owner said it was a missfire on cylinder 2 and if it happens again I have to fix the coil pack. Such was the diagnosis of a company in Liverpool. They cleaned the folts, done road test and was ok. Was ok for next 2200 miles. Car vibrates when standing but more than 2k/min is fine, no problems with acceleration. I have not noticed a drop in power or smoke

probably a duff reading then, if you have only 10 psi in 3 cylinders and zero in one then you would know about it
|
Probably 10 bar instead of PSI.
If the reading was in PSI the measurement went wrong, as that is way down on all cilinders, so the car would not run anywhere near good. |
Sorry my mistake there was 100 psi on three cylinders and 25 psi on one which is nothing
|
then you have a problem, possibly valve or ring burnt out the compression should idealy be within 10% of each other.
have you been running the car on 99 ron fuel? |
Yes I been running on 99 but 97 as well as no petrol station with 99 near the place I live. What to do next? Where to check compresssin again to make sure near Cambridge?
Any good company to fix the problem? |
i would predict as above valves or valve seats, you may also require a cylinder leakdown test
|
As above, get a leak down test done. Mine was shakey on idle, did a leak down test and exhaust valves weren't sealing.
|
What about low 100 psi on other cylinders. Its to low isnt it?
|
97 ron is not suitable for stis .
98 ron or above using lower can cause knocking and burn out valves etc which could well be your problem |
Where should I go to fix it? Any sugestions?
|
Minimum compression pressure is 130 psi so yes you do have problems - would imagine poor seating valves might be your problem on 3 of the cylinders and possibly a burnt valve on the dead cylinder.

What is the reason of this? I have done only 2.2k miles with mix 99 and 97 ron. Where to go to repair and how much might it cost me?
Do you think it was the reason of sale as the missfire on cylinder 2 was before I bought the car. I got the invoice what was done. The invoice says what to change when the CE light come back. I bought it as coil pack is not very expensive to fix. Didn't know the end od story will be diferent. Mayby I should contact to the company which diagnosed it wrong. What do you think? |
Can anyone advise me who to choose to repair the engine and what costs should I expect?
