Harnessess

Getting a harness in the next week or two and just got a simple question:

Why are harnesses not*ECE approved?

I thought they're miles safer than the standard belts.

Cheers

I use harnesses for the track but they would be a nightmare on the road as once fastened properly even reaching forward to alter a station o the radio would be such a pain also I have been told with normal seats that can fold means they can fail in an accident meaning you really need bucket seats.

Not that worried about the practical side as its hardly gonna get used other than a track/fun car. I know about the seat folding issue, not sure what I'm doing as in harness bar or new seats etc.

Steve, are you saying the potential seat folding issue is the reason they fail the ECE?

p.s. had a look at your garage mate, impressive scoob mate

Full harnesses are really only supposed to be used if you have a rollcage fitted. If you roll a car with out a cage you are trapped in the harness and can't move to the side when the roof caves in.

Fitting on the OEM seats is not the best,i would recommend fit bucket seats with adjustable rails...

About the harnesses i would go everytime with TRS 4point,great quality

i have TRS 4 point harnesses and tried using them on the road. Try it yourself and wait until you get to a blind junction or roundabout, then you'll realise it was a bad idea. i love them on the track as they keep you tied in tight and stop you from doing any excessive body movement.
Saying that i have OEM sti seats and no roll bar eek! the shoulder straps bolt behind rear seats, lap straps bolt to the seat belt bolts whilst retaining the the selt belt for everyday use ;)

Thanks guys

i know i need to get the new seats pronto and I was gonna get this harness

http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motors...saloon-harness

If I get TRS my interior is gonna look like Demon-Tweaks catalog as I've already got some OMP and the seats will be another brand

Roll-cage isn't an option at the moment, but the good thing is that this isn't really my daily drive as I'm a train commuter.

cheers
