sealing centre exhaust section

Hi,

got a full 3' Miltek, but struggling to seal the dopwnpipe to the centre section, used 2 gaskets and the 'felxi' bolts, and also tried hard bolting it but it's still blowing it's nackers off.

anybody been thru this?

Are you fitting it to the standard down-pipe with the cone gasket:wonder:

As above

no mate as above, full 3' miltek... mounted it with 2 gaskets and a dollop of exhauast sealant but still wont have it...

I had it with a blitz joining a cobra decat, but 2 gaskets and exhaust paste worked. Spring bolts are no good without a cone gasket.

If the faces aren't lining up flush I'd be looking for something that is pulling the exhaust at the wrong angle for the down-pipe, surely by tightening the nuts it should clamp it all tight:wonder:

the problem is a big gap at the top of the exhaust, bit closest to the floor of the car.

The system needs to pulled down, is it bolted in to the bracket near the O2 sensor okay?

Motion-Mx 19 February 2012 09:46 PM

yeah it's on that hanger/bolt ok yeah

JonMc 19 February 2012 09:49 PM

Loosen that bolt and then tighten up the exhaust from the front to rear - if that fails I'd be thinking that the flanges need to be re-fitted to line them up, if it's new speak to the seller.

I'm assuming that the tailpipe sits okay in the rear bumper opening, not hanging too low:wonder:

the system is used...

I think i did take it off that hanger near the 02 sensor last time I re-fitted it, the backbox sits ok,it takes some great heaving to get it up high enough to get it over the rubbers.

Mine is fitted without the centre hanger for now as it broke off, so unclipping that front bolt/fitting may help the joint come down without stressing all of the other hangers too much. That bracket may need some tweaking - apart from that I cannot think of anything else without being under the car and playing with it:wonder:

kind of got it sorted...

undid all the backbox bolts and did up the centre to downpipe section first, but also used 2 and a half gaskets, the half gasket seems to have solved.

I think one of the flanges was slightly warped, but seems to be ok for now...

is it ok to hard bolt it all? no flex in it? worries me about stress on the turbo

thanks for your help guy's,

thanks for your help guy's,

There's 2 schools of thought - flexi joints can be a bit of a weak link in a system, but there's some movement in the rubbers so it compensates a little.

I ran mine solid bolted for about a year and a half without a drama:thumb:
