Welsh Road Trip
Me and the wife are (well, I've talked her into it) not going on holiday this year so I mentioned to her about taking the Spec C on abit of a drive around the scenery of Wales and staying at a B & B for a few nights.
What I've got planned is leave London on a monday morning up to North Wales and take in the first road- the Evo Triangle from there we would then travel to the Pass of Llanberis and then probably stay the night. Wake up the next day and walk up Snowdon, I've not done it since I joined the Army 16 years ago and loved every minute of it and have always wanted to do it again. Next few scenic drives would take me down to central Wales where we would take in the Elan Valley followed by the Black Mountain Pass. Last we would drive down through the Wye Valley towards Chepstow and then travel up to the Cotswolds to visit friends for a night or two. I'm sure loads on here have done something similar but I wanted to get a route in my head before I got any recommendations from anybody else. Am I missing any amazing routes that the car needs to be thrown around? |
The Mach loop is a nice drive and the chance to see some low level jets. The dams of the elan valley are worth seeing and there is a road from them out to the coast which is good fun.
one thing I found was that i had to plan route to take in v power or tesco99 as its not available everywhere and car uses more as being driven hard. |
I normally go to shell island mate so its quite a good laugh. Easiest thing to do is too find some petrol stations on the internet phone and confirm them then put them into your sat nav as "via" points to your destination matey

Ahh good on ya , let us know if you make it to north Wales quiet a few of us up here ...

If you include bets y coed which is near the evo triangle , there's a shell garage their , we did the same last year inc the Colin mcrea meet.
Wales has awesome driving roads |
Ages since I've been to North Wales, but I used to love the A4212 from Bala to Trawsfynydd (or vice versa) - very fast and flowing.
|
Did half of that about 2 weeks ago, came face to face when going over the pass from Llanbreis to the A5 (towards Bets y coed) with a foreign driver who was driving on the right  good fun with the winter tyres on though ;)

Leave the wye-valley at Monmouth and take one of two alternative routes back to chepstow.. The B4293 through Trelleck, Devauden & Itton is much better than the A466, or my personal preference go down the A449 to Usk then use the Usk Road (B4235) back to Chesptow, and The Huntsman by Shirenewton is a really nice pub for some decent grub.

Quick note for the Snowdon walk - catch the bus up to Pen Y Pass from Llanberis and walk the Pyg Trail. Then walk back down the Llanberis Path to your start point. Saves you doing an out and back walk and stops your worries about parking anywhere.
