bad bad noise after gearbox change

so i just spent 2 days on my drive changing the gearbox on my wifes early (93) wrx, on starting it up for the first time its makeing a bad noise from around the belhousing area at first i thaught it may be something rubbing belt etc but its deffinetly coming from the back.
the clutch was ok so wasnt touched the box was hard to get on the last 10mm and had to be tightend down on the bolts but went easy enough i just put this down to it being a little sticky on the pins.
has anyone got a clue what this could be i realy dont have the time to strip this again or the will lol.
im going to take the starter off tomorrow the clutch is working and the noise dosnt change when its pressed down.

how hard was it to tighten , really hard or mega hard???

corfi 10 February 2012 10:04 PM

not too hard at all but when i tightend the top there was still a 5mm gap at the bottom it closed up easy enpogh though

hmmm they are a pita to line up, you shouldnt really just tighten one side up and then do the other side, you need to close the gap equally round the box, ive had a few probs myself b4 but mine was just getting the spline in, i kept moving the clutch away from centre, did you do it on your own???

corfi 11 February 2012 08:07 AM

yes did it o my own im going to pop the starter out and see if i can see anythinh obvious in a bit

they are hard to do it on your tod, btw did you move the engine forward to do it or drop the box, i ve always just moved the engine alot easier.

corfi 11 February 2012 01:03 PM

i had to drop the bax because i was changing the box rather than the clutch im going to look at it tomorrow just cba today lol

corfi 11 February 2012 03:57 PM

How much would I have to take off to move the engine forward and how much will stretch?

corfi 12 February 2012 07:03 PM

ok so i took the box off today and everything looked ok i took out the thrust bearing and set it all up again, put the box back in and got the same noise again onlyt now the center of the clutch wont engage soooooooo i took it apart again (at least im getting good at it now) and removed the clutch, Imagine my surprise to see the small cover plate at the bottom of the engine bent up and obviously been hitting the clutch/flywheel
im glad i found what it was but you know how pissed off i am at this moment lol.

sorry missed your post, to move it forward ,engine mounts and downpipe, thats it. i got an expert at it lol

and lol, thats all it was, dont know if i put mine back on or not, i took mine off to chnage the clutch i`m guessing you didnt, you will do in future
