coilover spring rates
i currently have hks hyper coilovers on my 94 classic track car and they are way way too hard, even for the track! so i am looking to purachase some softer springs but keep the dampers but i have no idea what spring rate to go for.
i've emailed 4 very well known companies for some info/advice and they haven't bothered to get back to me. does any body know which to go for? cheers guys:thumb: |
60kg/cm front and 50kg/cm rear on a classic is a good starting point that is usable on road as well (that is what I had on my ASTs and worked well). You can go stiffer or softer but it all depends on use and what your shocks are capable off...
I assume trackday use btw with no major weight changes over stock etc |

the car will be used totally for the track so it's all stripped out. i have found from another source to try 450lbs/ins (78.75 N/mm) on the front and 337/58.9 on the rear lbs/in x 0.175 = N/mm |
No it's different units, 1 kg/cm = 9.81N/mm.
How much does it weigh (is there a roll cage in?) and what tyres will you be using? (these make a massive difference on setup) The rates that you're talking about are stiff, but on a smooth track with decent (semi/full slicks) tyres they should be ok. To hard IMO for road use, and if it's a bumpy track then they may be too stiff... Do you drive it to the track or does it get there on a trailer? |
no cage in it, will be using semi slicks, trailered and it's totally stripped out, no idea of the weight

Totally as no dash, passenger seat, headlinning etc?

its going to be about 1100 KG i would have thought. ?

everything bar the front seats and dash, mostly doing anglesey, oulton and aintree

I'd start a touch softer, at 7F/5-6R kg/cm since there is some weight off, but what you suggest should work as well as a track car.
