THREEBOND TB1215 SILICONE

Over the years of owning my impreza the rocker gaskets 90% of the time have leaked. I've changed them so many times I've lost count :brickwall with and without silicone and always leaks from the back side where the half moons are, they do stop but not for long. Is it really worth buying this threebond TB1215 silicone (£28) when I do it again.

Andygreer 06 February 2012 09:11 PM

£28 were you buying that from jesus!!!!

Its the only thing i would use to reseal a engine/cam cover seals etc. WELL worth the money

here is a link for you

Thank's for the link but it's only .60p cheaper. That's £28 is to my door not plus delivery. Looks like i'm about to buy the dearest silicone going just hope it work's

Is it used as well as, or instead of, the gaskets?

Are you doing your own?

Care to put up a guide how to?

Andygreer 06 February 2012 09:53 PM

Oh sorry mate i collect didnt think re postage :( do it properly do it once :)

prodriverules 06 February 2012 09:59 PM

I wouldn't use anything else bar threebond, epic stuff for sealing once and forget about it

JonMc 06 February 2012 10:03 PM

The engines coming out for this one, I'm helicoiling some of the threads. The d!@khead befor me packed the the bolts out with washers to get them tighter and fu@ked some of the threads. Only good thing is I get to fit the new lightweight flywheel, clutch, recon box and Megan Racing Engine Mounts. I'm looking forward to getting it back on the road.

Its used as well as and no need for a guide, its pretty self explanatary when you start, remove the bolts, coils (depending on model) and off it pops

i would say, the bottom left bolt, when doing the drivers side was the hardest, i cut down a 1/4" 10mm socket to get it on as the subframe stops a full socket getting on

I've see that befor in halfords just wasn't 100% on it. I'll maybe give it a go next time. Hopefully not the rocker gasket.

Would a decent ring spanner have been better?

Oh, and when you do this, is it from underneath? Car on ramps or jacked?
How much oil do you lose?

The Rig 07 February 2012 06:23 PM

Nope, ring spanner wouldnt do it, rounded the head of the bolt

its from above the car, very hard to do from underneath

not much oil lost

didnt jack the car up, no need

alcazar 07 February 2012 06:42 PM

Damn.......being only 5'8", and with a bad back, I find it harder to reach over than to get under:(

Baz82 07 February 2012 06:45 PM

Have done rockers cover gaskets before with wratchet ring spanner and 1/4" socket no problem

Turbotits 07 February 2012 06:46 PM

I used a 10mm wobble end rachet spanner. Great spanners for all sorts of stuff. more expensive ones are available but these are good

The reason subaru use the Threebond sealant is because some silicone sealers contain acid which eats into alloy where as the proper stuff doesnt, I have loads of the threebond sealant and use it for almost anything thats alloy as its specific for it

The Rig 07 February 2012 08:18 PM

Thats a good selling point but i have used normal gasket sealants on alloy block for 15 yrs+ with no issues

The copper stuff i linked aboe is great for this job

each to their own i guess, if your happy spending £30+ then cool, if not, £6 is better LOL
