Big end bearing's gone, what's re-usable?

Hello,
Split the block on my project....https://www.scoobynet.com/920019-ama...f-build-2.html

...and as you can see the big end has gone on one conrod but the rod looks undamaged. The cranks been hit by some debris so i'd take it thats a right-off. i'll possibly keep the rod's/piston's just in case but may consider selling them on Ebay. I'll obviously be honest but can the piston's/rods be re-used?

i have a decent crank here mate and a set of acl bearings if u need them :D

that does look nasty :(

BRAVEHEART_STI 05 February 2012 09:12 PM

rods and pistons should be fine although id change the rod that the bearing spun on just in case

sti version 3 centre thrust so would fit version 1 to version 4 engines

ebay depends on yourself

id say its ok as long as u tell the full story :)

Not sure on the rods etc, but make sure you don't reuse the Oil Modine or Oil pump as you'll never get all the debris out.

I would not reuse any of it, the way that bearing looks is quite bad with a fair bit missing, those rods are the worst and worthless and the one with the spun bearing will be fubared, the debris will be all over the engine and i'd suggest you change the pistons and get the bores honed to suit.

Make sure you clean everything very very thoroughly, pay special attention to the oil gallerys in the heads and check the valve clearances while your at it.

The turbo will also need to be flushed and primed when refitted, which is a pain but vital.
