MY99 Uk Turbo Boost gauge install
 

Installing my Defi tomorrow but where do I connect the rubber hose on my model? I've read there's a certain place on the 99/00 models?
Any pictures?

There a spare nipple on the inlet manifold in the centre from memory. Will have a rubber cap on it

Anyone got a picture?

The rubber vac hose goes direct to the manifold - if you happen to have a spare unused nipple available (if so it'll be covered with a removable cap).

But it's more likely that there won't be one... So the thing to do is locate the vac feed for the dump valve (the brass coloured round thing attached to the passenger side end of the TMIC). Then you can cut that length of hose in two, and rejoin with a plastic T-piece of suitable size. Then, using the T-piece's remaining 90-degree port, plumb the boost gauge's vac hose to it. Then feed the vac hose through a suitable rubber grommeted hole in the firewall/bulkhead and on to the rear of the boost gauge...

Joz if its a 99/00 uk car it will definetley have one and its easy to find.
As you lift your bonnet up,look where your alternator is at the front of the car.There is the main power lead going to the alternator which normally has a red cap covering the lead,directly behind the lead on the right on the inlet manifold you will see the 2 vac pipes,the small one(LHS) is covered with a plastic sheath,simply pull this off and away you go,connect your 3mm tubing and run the piping to follow your existing vac pipes & job done.The other pipe goes under your coilpack to your recirc/dumpvalve if you have a tmic .It is the same on all V5/6 wrx's iirc,as they have 3 vac pipes on the inlet manifold where the earlier classics only had 2. :thumb:

Where's the sender located in this picture?

Can't be bothered removing the intercooler unless I have to!

Most normal gauges just connect into the back of the gauge,i forgot defi's were different.You do not need to take the intercooler off just to fit the boost gauge,simply connect your sender to the pipe and secure it either at the back of the coil pack,or a nearby location.

Yup spare vac pipe on the inlet as you said! Unsure on if it's a good idea to try it today, jesus it's cold!

Cheers midnight.... I should have known that, as I have a STi 5!!! :cuckoo: I just assumed the OP's one would already be in use (say, something attached to it by a previous owner). lol

And yeah, my vac hoses are hooked up exactly as you say. :thumb:


Where's the 3rd small nipple (on the RHS) go to? It surely goes to the BCS's PES, right?

Not bothered today... It took me hours removing the trim and ashtray and wiring up the control unit... Got that sorted today though just need to sort the under the bonnet stuff when the weathers better!

Getting the control unit into the ashtray was enough of a mission for today.. Where's yours installed?

Mine is where the cupholder WOULD have been had the greedy Japs not deleted it on my car and fitted a cupholder-cover:rolleyes:

Did you install it there or someone do it for you? Considered this myself but the cup holder is more use than the ashtray...

Hi Joz ,it can be a bit confusing as sti 5/6 tend to either have a rubber sleeve like uk cars or like the P1 have a vac pipe going to the engine :wonder:.The RHS pipe goes into a t piece which has one pipe going to the bottom of the bcs(map solenoid) & the other to the black circular valve under your air filter inlet hose. :thumb:

I wanted the thing to be visible, and it is.

The only thing I have against it is that the little LED that Defi provide to tell you when your boost gauge is linked to your fuel pressure gauge, so as to show DIFFERENTIAL fuel pressure, is RED, not green.

It does make me wonder, and you'd be surprised at the number of folk I've had in who've said, "You've got a red light on here mate..."

Had there BEEN a cupholder there, mine might be somewhere else now, but oh no, that was one of the things Subaru took off before selling cars to us at higher prices:mad;

Is it 3mm or 4mm hose I will need to connect? The defi came with one but I'm thinking of getting some better hose to use, and in blue... :Whatever_

If its to go on the spare vac hose it's 3 mm you want, I have replaced the blue silicone hose in the picture for some o/e vacuume hose which is more firmer. :thumb:

Why is aftermarket silicone hose too soft?

I found I could squeeze the silicone pipe quite easily ,so I opted for the same vacuume hose that is pictured on the left of the silicone stuff - much firmer & original equipment .

With a vacuum hose, the pressure inside is reduced, so you need the walls to be thick and quite stiff, or the hose will collapse due to air pressure.

Guess that's why they recommend a short as possible section before the sender. Where's your sender secured alcazar?

Where did you get the o/e vacuum hose from fella?

I got some off a car that my mate was breaking,looks more factory fit ,than the blue silicone stuff. :thumb:
