Whats the oldest dog you know of.

Last summer my neighbour out in croatia had her sister come over from OZ for the first time in 25 years, while we were sat talking the neighbours maingey mutt came over on the scrounge as usual, and she commented on how supprised she was to see that it was still alive, as it was a young pup when she left all those years ago, it has subsiquently passed away at the ripe old age of 27 according to my neighbour.

Now i had no idea a dog could live this long, and the oldest i know of was around 16, so just wondered whats the record :wonder: as surely this must be close to it.

That sounds very, very suspicious to me :wonder:

Dogs just don't last that long.

Our own little darling Cavalier is 14 and that is a quite good age. Wolf Hounds, apparently, live for around 6 or 7 years only

I'd be intereted to know what the record books show though ;)

i have three staffies (three generation's)
old lady 14 years old
her son 12 years old
his daughter 7 years old.

Coffin Dodger 03 February 2012 01:57 PM

Oldest ever was over 29 years of age.

Does depend on the breed and it does seem that those that have been tampered with by the Kennel Club etc. the least seem to live the longest e.g. collies typically reach 15-16 years old.

Well then it seems it is possible, these two old dears have no reason to lie so i'm inclined to believe them now that the record seems to be longer, and the theory of the dog not being tampered with holds water.

This dog had what i thought was the worst case of mainge (sp) i have ever seen, but was obviously due to old age.

It was a heinz 57 and conceived in the mountains and lived it's whole life here, so that may be the reason it lived so long, it was also small and i believe small dogs tend to live longer.

Lol, sounds like someone fed him something they shouldn't have at the wrong time, mine never do that.

Toss up between Your mum or gran - both can and do remove their false teeth to avoid and nasty nips which is always a bonus!

Leslie 04 February 2012 12:29 PM

Our good old black cat lasted for 22 years, even if it was a different breed.

My parents' Border Collie cross was a couple of months of making it to 20 when she died :(

She was deaf as a post and mad as a box of frogs for the last few years :D
