Cleaning car windows ??

Whats the secret off managing to get car windows spotless inside and out ?? no matter what I seem to use I can never get a decent finishthey always look streaky etc in the sunlight !! any advice ??

Autoglym glass polish (cream) is pretty idiot proof. Little dusty, but just use a feather duster to remove that.

If you use a glass cleaner spray alway use kitchen roll....couple of sheets to wipe it on, and fresh dry sheets to dry off.

jono300 02 February 2012 03:03 PM

thanks appreciate that.

Kitchen roll works perfectly for me too. Or I have heard that newspaper is supposed to work, haven't tried it myself.

Autoglass spray and kitchen roll

SRSport 03 February 2012 05:27 PM

Water and a microfiber. Ive tried sprays for windows and they never look as good.

ALi-B 03 February 2012 06:00 PM

Distilled/de-ioned water? The tap water round here leaves white marks (lots of calcium).

+1 for the Autoglym, awesome stuff

I use tap water.
I damped an edge of the cloth, rub over the window and then use the dry side straight away and it leaves the window perfectly spotless.

scoobynewbie72 03 February 2012 06:52 PM

wipe down with newspaper(joke) then a microfibre, a clean cloth or 3 is the key tbh as you hold a cloth the grease/oil from your hands transfers to the cloth, so as you turn the cloth it goes on the windows, you may not see it until the windows steam up but its there, so 2 cloths to wipe off.

Razorwrx1 03 February 2012 11:36 PM

White Vinegar Mate. Really. Works a treat with a Microfibre:thumb:

barrybudden 04 February 2012 02:50 PM

Yep vinegar and buff off with newspaper as it shins the glass.

ScoobySteve69 04 February 2012 03:58 PM

I can`t believe how much some people pay for glass cleaner  How clean can you really get glass? I use Kleeneze Natural Window Cleaner with vinegar for a few quid. My widows are spotless....how can you get cleaner than spotless :lol1:

I admit I used to use Mr Muscle or "Wizz" window cleaner and it was fine.

However I was given an Autoglym gift pack the other year as a gift and it included cream glass polish, and I have to admit it does do the job really nicely. Especially on a warm sunny day when if using sprays the glass dries before you have chance to wipe it.

3m glass cleaner is one of the best i have used and i have used a lot :lol1:

If your finding the AutoGlym Glass Polish dusting, your using too much.

2 cloths, one for putting it on, one for removing (buffing)

I use a glass polish (for really dirty glass) and a glass cleaner (spray) for just dirty glass.

Do the outside glass up/down, the inner side to side (or other way around) and that way you will see if you have missed any.

If its smearing, you have put too much on.

lordharding 22 March 2012 10:00 AM

Best things I ever bought

smithy86 24 March 2012 09:53 PM

is the autoglym glass polish (cream) used on both sides of the glass?

Brun 25 March 2012 07:15 AM

I've always used it on both sides.

95turbowagon 25 March 2012 02:09 PM

I clean first with IPA to get all the grease and contaminents off and then use carlack glass sealent, over 40mph you don't need to use the wipers as the water beads straight of the window

DonNedly 25 March 2012 05:23 PM

nothing wrong with using newspaper to get rid of water marks

Dont use glass polish if you have aftermarket tints though, probably stating the obvious but it'll scuff it to hell. I used to be a fan of autoglym glass polish but it is very dusty, regardless of how sparingly it's used. I use maxolen glass polish now, it's every bit as good as autoglym but without the dust and it'll also take out minor scuffs from glass and hazing from light lens covers if used with a machine polisher

bit of screen wash in a bottle works :)

I use AG glass polish alot (its my full time job) and I don't have it dust at all.

I have used maxolen, prefer AG. But each to their own :thumb:
