Heve you got a vid of you giving it some revs mate?
To me that doesn't sound like knock.Just tappety.

When you say you have changed the bearings, did you check the crank was ok? 99.9% of the time when you get a big end fail it takes the crank out with it, along with the rod.

mechanic checked the crank,he said it was ok. Version 4 head, they have solid lifters or hydraulic?

RICHARD J 01 February 2012 01:48 PM

STI solid WRX hydraulic.

thanks, now if ever when assembling the engine, and the shims got exchanged, can it cause this sound?

merlin24 01 February 2012 05:25 PM

Yes - did you not check the valve clearances ??

Always change the crank mate for piece of mind.

hi m8,here in mauritius, cranks are not available. you have to buy a whole engine for it,and its not cheap here. well crank was inspected, was ok.will start checking timing belt, then remove the engine to strip..

Buy a crank and pay for my flight and I'll bring it over in my hand luggage:lol1:

Also bare in mind it may also take some out of the rod causing excessive clearance. Shells rarely fix a knocking big end.

krish51287 03 February 2012 04:37 PM

hi everyone,so stripped the engine today:
result: Piston were slightly hitting the head due to too thin layer gasket(0.75mm)
Now changing to 1.5mm.Nearly unbelievable!
