hi all new to scoobys and problem
 

Hi all got the car about a month ago its a 98 turbo 2000 uk.
Drained the coolant out as there was no antifreeze in!!!! Guy i bought it off said it had 5 year antifreeze in sweet as a nut. I think he meant to say it had 5 bottles of radweld in it. It is leaking from under the inlet manifold from a steel hose which runs straight on and a bit branches off to the left and out of sight. it seems to be coming from the smaller pipe what branches off what you cant see. Anyways where does the steel hose run to? Im hoping its just this and not the head.dont know? any advice on this problem would be really gratefull, as im now carless for one week till mechanic can sort it. Other than this niggle cant fault the car best motor yet. cheers martin

if its the smaller pipe it runs into the bottom of the reservoir, the end s do get corroded especially with no antifreeze, some of the other really small pipes go to the throttle body and the icv

I hope it's not been anti-freeze free for long.
Anti-freeze has a corrosion inhibitor, if it's been without for long, you might have lots of problems you CAN'T see too :(

cheers guys, yeah its the smaller one which runs under the inlet manifold can it be removed with the inlet manifold still in place? just the mechanic says it needs to come off? Are there many other steel hoses worth replacing while this is getting done, dont know how long its had no antifreeze in for all looks well rusty in the header tank. cheers martin

Yep, Inlet manifold off to do the job as the metal pipe is bolted to the coolant cross over pipe (and the bolts on the X-over pipe tend to shear off when removed due to corrosion) - you can check all the other coolant pipes while the manifold is off too.
Metal pipework runs down to the water pump behind the LH Inner timing cover.

cheers mick that pics a great help although on mine the pipe seems smaller, also where you say the bolts shear off are these in the head? I was wondering about the connections on the ends dont seem out fancy as i was debating about getting some made up out of stainless prob be as cheap as steel items off the dealer. Anyone replaced these parts and no what they cost?
