First catch can drain - Does this look okay?
 

First drain of my catch can after nearly 1000 miles, I got the following:

Mainly very watery with a little bit of flemmy yellow stuff floating at the top, it looks nothing at all like oil. Is this good :Suspiciou

Im no expert, but looking at it I`d say better out than in..... Im sure an "expert" will be along to advise.

I'm no 'expert' either but that looks like someone has just spunked in to it!

Where is the outlet going to, back to the sump or to atmosphere? If its to atmosphere is there a possibility of moisture getting back into the can via the outlet causing the water oil mix? Just an idea though

WTF ... someone asking something technical and the first three replys start "im no expert" ..... where are all the forum gladiators jumping in with sweeping statements and dangerous assumptions???? haha .... fair play chaps!

I had a similar gloop (granted it wasnt as spunky as yours!) build up in my catch can, and the fella at the garage i use didnt seem too phased! If you think about it, its oil which has been vapourised and then condensated in the catch can so has changed property, it will be warm vapour so it will be bringing in water with it which will also condensate, therefore its understandable that it will resemble what appears in the sump after a catastrophioc HG failure ..... it does raise questions about all those who drain catch cans straight back to the sump though i think!

Thanks for the input, yes the outlet is venting to atmosphere, with the pipe directed downwards.
I would be very surprised if anything other than a tiny percentage was caused by moisture getting back in through there......
when people vent to atmosphere do they usually aim the pipe up or down?

Just moisture, is normal chap

Down to the road as low as you can get it, pointing at the road!

The moistures in the air though bud, Youll never stop moisture in the air getting in, which is kept warm as its venting from the engine, then when it all cools down it'll condensate into the catch can .... just the way it is!

Least your draining it out rather than letting it mix back into your engine oil.
