Removing Stuck Caliper Pistons

1 Attachment(s)
Anyone on here able to help?... there's 5 left to remove in my 4 pot caliper's. Removed the other with the 2 flat screw driver method. . All pistons are getting replaced anyway.

I dont have access to a air gun or suchlike so im a bit stuck. Was considering a welder and a bar!!

Big pair of waterpump pliers?

Qwertyco 24 January 2012 05:23 PM

drill through the piston, tap the hole, insert a bolt and jack them out.

soak them in releasing fluid for days first, and get them fairly hot when you jack them out. (boil them).

Have you got new seals for joining the 2 halves back together again?

Grease gun on the bleed nipple and fill the thing with grease, eventually the pistons will be forced out by the grease. Bit messy and require rigourous cleaning afterwards though

bolt them back to the car, use some wood etc to stop the free pistons moving and pump the brake

This method seems very familiar Ian. :lol1:
It worked a treat, pistons eased out in the end with no flat headed screwdriver damage. I would suggest not to use too softer wood if you are going to use wood. :thumb:

I thought it looked a bit too late to do it the proper way!
This is how I got mine out as well.

Will give these ways a try soon guy's. Thankyou for your help.

Will try the soaking in releasing fluid for a few day's first, Been told to leave them in a freezer for a few hours to help move the piston. If no luck ill bolt them up to the car to try shift them. . If still no luck...hammer..chisel!!! and anger shall prevail

Not available last time I asked this question, that's why I was wondering.

I had some EPDM flat ring seals made up for the 2-pot rear calipers, that was 18 months ago, and they are working fine.
I had to have 50 made (minimum order!)
Perhaps the front seals are the same size?

Do you still have the EPDM flat ring seals mate..Can send a few pennies over for a a few. I cant seem to find out whether the seals are the same. They look it but i cant be sure.. Not going via the stealers as they'll probable want me to re mortgage to afford them!!

Will keep the search going!!
