1st subaru. What do i need to service it?

As the title says really. I have just bought my 1st Subaru and for piece of mind want to get it serviced but have no idea what i will need to buy or the quantitys since there is no Haynes manual on the Year 2000 Impreza Turbo wagon that i cant find? I need to know what oil to use in gearbox and engine and what amount? Are the service kits you see on e-bay worth the £90+? If not can i get all the bits cheaper elswhere? The car is a UK impreza 2000 Turbo wagon with 120K on the clock. |
Importcarparts for the service kit, you need 4.5 litres of engine oil (10w40 or 10w50). The gear oil should be 75w90, I dunno how much tho mate!

NGK PFR6B will be fine for your model.

Is it worth changing fuel filter as well? |
If you have no documentation/knowledge of its last change, then very much yes.
Not expensive, and peace of mind that you will have replaced all the servicing items... :thumb: |
It has full service history but the paperwork is still with the car until I pick it up tomorrow. I asked the previous owner on another forum when it was last service to be told look in the book which wasn’t very helpful.
As you can tell from my user name I’m more used to older Jap N/A cars so this turbo lark stuff is all new to me so don’t be surprised if you come across some silly questions in the future. |
Just a thought but will the Diff and gearbox need new washers if i'm getting the oil changed or dont they have any?

Well the Turbo wagon had its full service yesterday and after a gearbox oil change the 5th gear pop out seems to of stopped. Apparently the gear oil was very burned and as thick as treacle which would explain why it was a bit crunchy changing gear when cold.
Few things picked up. Rad is rusty and possibly need changing at some point and was down by 1.5L of anti-freeze. Rear discs will need changing when the pads do and 3 out of the 4 mixed tyres could do with a change. So think I’ll get a set of new tyres but which to go for Falken FK452 or Toyo T1-R. |
Be careful with it popping out of fifth, does it do it when you come off the power? I had this and was told that a lockring had failed and could have buggered the box as it rattles round in the casing (but we caught it in time).........
WRT tyres, horses for courses but I find the T1Rs sidewalls a bit sloppy....... |
Considering it's on 120k miles, I'd look at replacing/uprading the fuel pump too.

Just incase you didn’t do it,I would change the fuel filter too - dead easy jobbie.

Had the 215/40 R17 ToyoT1-Rs on my old 282/273 MY93 WRX - were okay, but were't the grippiest in tight turns. Changed to 215/45 R17 Goodyear Eagle F1s - a great tyre. I have 215/40 R17 Falken FK452s on my 384/349 STi 5 (got them because APIDavid had them on his old 400/400 WR Blue Blob STi, and I really liked them. Prefer them to the T1-R... and they're cheaper too! For their relative paltry cost, they're an excellent mid-to-high end tyre IMO - great VFM!

The T1-Rs are not worth £120 for a full set, over the FK452s IMO.

The TR-1 are only £30 more in total for all 4 fitted not separately.
It's £320 for 4x FK424 fitted and £350 for 4x TR-1 fitted |
