Version 5 STi MAF Sensors
Whats the crack with the version 5 STi's MAF sensor... I've just bought one and have been reading that these need replacing every so often to avoid problems?
True/False? Is the SIMTEK ECU the only way forward to run MAF'less or can it be achieved on the ECUTEK. The car has been ECUTEK remapped and is pretty much standard except decat downpipe, a version 8 TMIC and 1.3bar boost limit |
If it's a new one, it should be okay.
Is it the later, more robust "green stripe/post 2006" manufactured one? Is there a green painted stripe on it? What's the code on it (white stenciled lettering)? Simtek isn't the only MAFless ECU replacement, but it is the cheapest for a MY99/00 car. EcuTek can't run MAFless. If it can, then it's news to me! :D |

IHI VF28 - good for up to c.330bhp when remapped. (The std 440cc injectors will be near to their limit as well). |

The green 'stripe' (or 'dot' if it's pre-2006) + that code will be enough to tell anyway. :thumb:

They only need replacing when the car tells you so, or when it is running rough or throwing up a cel,not like engine oil every 6 months ,etc.I have had mine on the car for 18 months & no problems on my MY00 or my MY99 car previous.They can tend to play up more when fitted to an induction kit opposed to the std airbox,which allows a smooth passage of air across the sensor.A std 99/00 maf sensor should have the no's GF700R92 stamped on one side & 7829 on the other,with a green stripe where the securing nut holds the sensor to the tubing.
