Help Please Engine Light ASAP

Hi,

I have a subaru type r on a 1997. It had a normal wrx engine in and it had bottom end failure. I changed the engine to a sti v4. Engine went in fine everything started up and runs fine, the check engine light came on and the car wont go over 4500 rpm. I have changed ECU, KNOCK SENSOR, IDLE CONRTOL. I re set the ECU the light goes off when i start it, I drive it hard and then the light comes on and problem starts again wont go over 4500rpm.

Please help its been doing my head in all week. Hope you guys can help

Thanks

Check fault codes: http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.p...eadingECUCodes

see whats being logged.

If you've been messing diconnected/swapping stuff, which guessing from the above you have, you will have caused some "false" fault codes to get logged in the ECU's memory.

So write down the logged codes. THEN Reset ECU (as shown here: http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.p...ledge/ECUReset ), and go for another drive until the ECU light comes back on, Then recheck for the fault codes and focus on the codes that come back.

Bearing in mind because a codes say "this is faulty" it doesn't always mean that. For example it could be wiring, or a vacuum/air leak or blocked exhaust (shattered cat) etc.

Although as a blind guess its probably logged a vehicle speed sensor code.

+1 to what Ali-b said.Sounds like it just needs resetting.
Do you know what caused the bottom end to go previously?
Are you running any mods?

Welcome by the way.

Danny.

appears to me your hitting boost cut through overboosting and putting the ecu into limp mode to protect the engine have you changed any of the pipework relating to the boost control solenoids or turbo? Is the restrictor pea in the boost control pipe you used on the turbo outlet?

ALi-B 22 January 2012 11:22 AM

Again: what are the fault codes?

scooby-max 22 January 2012 03:20 PM

I don't know how to read the codes

It happens 15/20min after driving the car the light comes on then restricts it

I had something simluar recently and mine was Maf and knock sensors that were at fault if you look up scoobypedia on google then look under ecu fault codes it gives you step by step instructions on how to read fault codes and reset ecus very helpfull stuff

Ati@asworld 22 January 2012 05:21 PM

always check the wires

scooby-max 22 January 2012 05:46 PM

all wires have been checked :-( still no luck

scooby-max 22 January 2012 05:47 PM

feel like just hitting the car really doing my head in

alcazar 22 January 2012 06:06 PM

So what codes does it throw up? http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.p...eadingECUCodes

You HAVE to do this, or bite the bullet, bend over and take it to a dealer........unless you have a specialist in your area?

In any case, the point of asking for help on here is that when people tell you what to do, you read how and then go and do it....isn't it?

scooby-max 22 January 2012 10:45 PM

showing up as knock sensor and maf have been changed still the same problem what npw as this is doing my head in now

cookie sti 23 January 2012 07:46 AM

Did you torque the knock sensor down to 23nm and clean the block up when fitting the sensor? I took my manifold off to do mine and make sure everything was clean and found i had a cracked intake. if you search my recent posts you can read all about it but i had exactly the same problem. Also try disconnecting the battery for an hour or so cos that can help along with the ecu reset.

Were the maf and knock sensors brand new ?
