Idle problems

Hi all.. It's been 3 years since my RA was stolen in Cheltenham , just brought another scoob cuz couldn't resist. Brought a wrx v limited on a 96 plate. All fine apart from a idle issue. Around town when stopping and starting in traffic the idle goes up and down. Goes so low that if almost stalls.. Even the ignition lights come on for a sec. Ive cleaned the MAF today but still having same problem. Ang ideas?
Only engine mods are fmic, decat exhaust, warlbro fuel pump and dump valve.
Hope some one can help

It's good to be back in a scooby. :)

I would suspect MAF cleaning rarely works, but it could be idle valve or air leak. Faulty dump valve can also cause this.

Mine did this a few months ago.Changed the maf and it was fine.
The maf didn't give a fault code it was just the waving idle.
Change the maf mate. They can kill an engine and I plan on changing mine every year.

Sorry to be new boy asking stupid questions, but what is MAF? as my subaru is doing something similar, especially whilst changing gear.
Thanks

Mass Air Flow Sensor.located in your air inlet pipe near your air box lid.

or air leak, can be from the inlet manifold gaskets, silicone pipes,dv, anywhere that the turbo bolts onto and pushes air through

so without handing it over to a dealership, whats the best way to find this out, if like me you dont' know a cam shaft from a calm day?
