The Dreaded fuel leak update!
Hello people well been on the phone to subaru uk and my closest dealer about my fuel leak on my bug because of the cold weather and it turns out i cant get it fixed free of charge because my chassis number isn't in the report that was sent out. So now have to fork out a S**t load of cash to put subaru's fault right! Not happy! Does anyone have any ideas please?

Adrian Hogg @ subaru uk is the man! Just got the all clear my scoob is going to be fixed foc now! Its leaking from the connector which connects the fuel pipes together under the inlet manifold. Result! Thanks for your help everyone

Hi sorry i aint been on here for a while. I phoned subaru uk on 0121 7474000. Ask to be put through to customer services. Adrian Hogg will probably answer the phone! (if not ask for him) He will know what you are on about as soon as you say about your fuel leak. Can i ask do you have a wagon?? if so some of them aint covered because of the chassis no or something. Speak to adrian and see what he say's and will give you the all clear to call your local scooby dealer to get it booked in. Hope this helps and you get it sorted a.s.a.p!

Yes, I have a wagon - V7 STi MY2000, very early bug... You wouldn't have any more on the chassis numbers? |
I think this may have answered the question I came on here with.
I have a 2002 wagon and started smelling petrol yesterday (cold snap). Is this a dear fix? any links for more infor available would be gratefully appreciated Thanks |

Called Adrian this morning and mine is in the recall range :luxhello:
Called the local dealer and it is going in Monday for confirmation that it is the right leak and if it is (can't see it not being), they will fix for free:) So a big thanks for the help and info as it looks like it going to save me quite a bit of cash and a headache I don't need. |
Just spoken Adrian Bolt. He says unless the temp has been down to -10 it's not an issue. However, if I get local dealer to have a look and it is found to be leaking from that place, they can raise a recall...

Has anyone had an import car sorted out under this agreement?

Rang Subaru UK on Monday as i have been getting a strong fuel smell through the heaters, and was advised to speak to my local garage (Keith Price), as they were saying it should only be on WRX's only and in extreme weather conditions. After an inspection by them on Tuesday, there still awaiting confirmation from Subaru UK that the repair can go ahead.
I hope they get some confirmation soon as it getting quite cold in the car without the heaters on :cry: |
@ Bonesetter. I was told by the dealership that mine was a Belguim import and they are doing mine for me in 2 weeks time as the warranty claim was accepted today:luxhello:. They are also checking the transverse links as they may need replacing which is again a warranty recall that mine falls into.
Been very impressed with the service I have received. |

Mine is 2002 STI wagon, I just have to quote my VIN number and they will let me know if they will carry out the repair.

OK, just phoned Adrian Hogg - very nice chap. Explained my car was a JDM and he has emailed Japan my VIN number to see if the car is in the affected range...

I spoke to Adrian first and he said I needed to get it checked at the dealership. I took it to the dealership and they have a look to see if it is the fault, they then submit a warranty request to Subaru UK. As it happened, by the time I got to the closest dealership the car had warmed up so no smell or obvious leak :lol1: When/if this accepted they can they do the work under the warranty recall. I took mine to the garage Monday and they called today to confirm that it was accepted. It helps when you are at the dealership if you have as much info on the fault as possible as they were not aware of a recall when I went. They found the info on a technical bulletin that was sent out in 2010. They also called Adrian Hogg while I was there.
I did make me laugh though that no one at the dealership had heard of this until I was there, then while they were sorting mine someone else called up with the same problem. I hope they got theirs sorted to. Hope this helps. |

Righty then girls and boys heres how I did it for FREE. Firstly contact VOSA so your not standing on anyones toes. A quick email regarding the smell of petrol when the temperature drops below freezing to: Martin.Ryder@vosa.gov.uk He was the investigating engineer on the case and has all the relevant information. Secondly contact your local Subaru Dealership, explain the problem and that you have contacted VOSA. If you have a problem with a know-all receiptionist ask to talk to the Service Manager. This is the money saving information you all require. If the Service Manager has never heard of the problem and is denying all knowledge he may need a nudge in the right direction so make him aware of: SERVICE BULLETIN 26th October 2010 Subject: Modification of Fuel Pipe Penultimate Paragraph on the First Page ask then if he would like to reconsider on proceeding with the work with no charge. They will probably need a day or so to get the go ahead from Subaru UK as the dealership will require payment from the manufacturer themselves now. You'll get a call back after the work has been agreed and your car will be booked in for the work. Mine was in the workshop for 2 days as they had to order in new manifold gaskets as they fall apart when removed. So be aware that it may not just be a days work. Hope this comes in helpful people. |
Well playing the waiting game, lets see what Subaru UK come back with, they have emailed Subaru Japan, please pray for my guys as I cant afford to pay out £300 at the moment so the car will have to stay parked up .

Change of fuel pipes under the inlet manifiold. I chose to do it my my self and do a parallel mod at the same time

I have one in monday for a checkover to see if subaru will cover it .
