Hatchback sti pro's & con's

Alright guys,

I'm considering buying a hatchback sti in a few months time, probably a 08/58 plate. What's the pros and cons with these, also is there anything I should be looking out for when going to view one?

Cheers

Kev

Have a read at the sticky at the top regarding engines.

Ensure the reflash Files have been carried out in regards to ringland fracture

alcazar 13 January 2012 08:43 PM

Pro's: it's got 5 doors.......
Con's: it looks like a Rover 25:D

grinch6301 13 January 2012 08:47 PM

Cheers rob, i have read that there was issues with the engine but want entirely sure what

Abx 13 January 2012 09:05 PM

Engine worries aside its pro after pro after pro, love mine and cannot find a thing to replace it with that does everything it does!

StanS 13 January 2012 09:11 PM

More civilised than all previous Scoobs - a great car to drive, all the goodies, + its a hatch !
Just make sure the engine is OK. (+ sevice history/usual checks).
Try to get the top spec Euro Premium Import spec or 330S. You'll pay peanuts extra for a whole heap of extra goodies.

I used to hate the hatch until I bought one, love the practicality and performance. it's the only car you can shove a couch in the boot and still beat an M3 at the traffic light GP :D

Pros - Best Scoob ever... :thumb:

Cons - Only a mad man would buy a standard car, as more than 1 in 10 have had engine failures (get a rebuilt one with forged internals). :cuckoo:

The best subaru since the classic wagon :D

Practical looks fantastic and it goes very well

grinch6301 13 January 2012 09:38 PM

That's what I'm looking for, love being able to chuck my bike/snowboard etc in the back of my wagon so the hatchback seems like the perfect upgrade. Did look at a r32 as well but I think I would miss the impreza burble too much

alcazar 13 January 2012 09:43 PM

Good grief, you lot....should have gone to Specsavers!

grinch6301 13 January 2012 09:51 PM

Each to their own alcazar

as the old saying goes, it doesnt do to be the same as everyone else. far less hatches about than any other subaru. I'm happy with my choice :D

2.0 litre JDM Hatches are £230.00 a year.

grinch6301 14 January 2012 08:25 AM

It's not top wack, £445 is still a rip off though

TonyBurns 14 January 2012 08:40 AM

Pro's, they really improved the car, better interior, nice looking, better handling etc, and the JDM's have the twin scroll engines :D
Con's, they put the 2.5ltr engine in some of them :(

Tony:D

Apart from the high tax band, i think the hatchback Sti is a great all round motor and definitely a step up from the blob/hawkeye sti (even in the looks department) but would rather source a used car thats been rebuilt with stronger internals or a 2ltr Jdm over a brand new for fear of engine failure:(

The hatch has definitely grown on me since it was first released, just a shame i cant afford or warrant having one sitting in the garage and never being driven.

squeakyclean32 14 January 2012 10:34 AM

Always liked the Hatch.....would like to have one in the future :thumb:....didn't realize they had an issue with the engines though .....still like one though ;)

Only with the 2.5ltr engines, hopefully later this year they will have the new 2.5ltr engine which is totally redesigned and made as a 2.5 rather than a bored out 2ltr.

The twin scroll JDM's dont have issues though and are a better car ;)

Plus they lose the "chav car" stigma attached to all the previous scoobs;)

rob84 14 January 2012 01:06 PM

Pro- Cheaper to insure than my last subaru

mickp 14 January 2012 03:50 PM

Lots of pro's over previous models. Subaru number 4 for me and easily the best.

Shame they gained 'chav' rear lights though!

Abx 14 January 2012 04:27 PM

Depends on what colour car, don't look bad on silver or white cars, certainly better than the 07 Hawk, they were horrendous, and chrome!

grinch6301 14 January 2012 04:36 PM

I'm looking at getting a grey one with smoked rear lights. Not so in your face I think

Abx 14 January 2012 05:13 PM

The red outer and smoked inner look pretty cool on a grey car.

Apart from the fact it blows up and it's hideous it's the best car ever :cuckoo:
