Cigarette lighter on a classic...

It's not working. And doesn't seem to be the fuse? Any ideas of why else this may not be working? Frustrating is an understatement!

if it was the fuse your electric mirrors wouldnt work either as they on same fuse ..loose connection behind the lighter probably

ElliottWRX 12 January 2012 07:36 PM

Cheers for that. Any idea how to check behind the lighter? Does it pop out or sumit?

SHUGSTERC 12 January 2012 07:47 PM

pull the ashtray out an see if u can deek in..if not its a couple of screws to take the side panel off..does the light work on the lighter bud?

It's a pain in the bottom job. console between seats needs to pop off and then centre dash needs to pop off too. I had this palarva when fitting a boost gauge. My electrical wires use the Cigarette lighter wire as it was least conjested electrically. Probably just a dodgy connection or fallen off wire.

As CoB say bit of pain to get into and feels like your going to break it!, did mine a number of years ago but so I could wire it direct to the battery (fused) as i was using a solar charger at the time to top the battery up.

The lighter socket also has an internal fuse as well as the one in the fusebox. Mine blew a while back and I couldn't find why it wasn't working and it was the fuse on the socket that had gone.

But WHAT doesn't work?
The lighter itself? Change the element or get another.
Anything else plugged in to the same outlet?
As above, but DO take the relevant fuse out and check it PROPERLY, not just by looking.
Blade fuses are known for being gone but LOOKING fine;)

Erm the light ring around the lighter socket still illuminates. But the socket it's self doesn't do anything, like no power to it. Tried a couple of things, like chargers and things but none get any power.

where in edinburgh are ya?..im in haddington if ur ever through this way soon let me know ill look at it for ya

My money in on the fuse in the socket itself. Take the socket out and check to see if it's got 12 volts coming into it, if so it's the socket.

On my last classic the previous owner had used the cig lighter wiring to wire up the manual boost controller, thanks for letting me know Jamie
