Preventative maintenance
 

I have 2004 WRX with H&S exhaust + remap, owned from new and scrupulously maintained by a reputable independent. It is approaching 140k miles and runs as well as ever but is now retired to a 'gentle' life as weekend toy.

Now the point, it needs a new cluch and is due a cam belt change (early change last time). Since these require more delving than usual it seems a good time to do any preventative maitenance that would normally be considered too much trouble. What would ScoobyNet recommend I get looked at to ensure that things remain as trouble free as they always have been.

Also I am considering using Slowboy Racing up near Brands this time, purely because they are much closer to where I live, what experiances have people had?

Maybe a new oil pump and water pump while the cam belt is off. 140k is respectable milage in a performance car.

Defo oil pump mate, speak to A.P.I about the exchange basis they offer on their products;)

+1. The original one has done alot of work and if it goes, well you know the rest.

if youre going to do the clutch then I'd look for a lightened flywheel to go with it.

As said, water and oil pump would be good plus geabox/diff oils, thermostat, antifreeze etc.

Why bother on a standard car with 140k on the clock? I would just have the original skimmed as there is no point in spending needlessly.

It was a suggestion, not the law! Jesus lighten up fella. A lightened flywheel is a nice enhancement if you're doing a clutch and doesnt cost huge money.

Im sorry, i thought this was a forum for debate? The op asked for "preventative maintainance" not modification. Maybe you could tell me in what way a lightened flywheel is preventative maintainance rather than get your knickers in a twist because this is the second of your suggestions i dared disagree with :Whatever_

Skimming a flywheel is about £50-£90. A lightened flywheel is about £250. From the way i read the op was he wants the car to run for as long as possible. I did not read he wanted performance advice?

I would recommend Slowboy racing for all your servicing and repair needs. This guy has been working on Subaru's for over 10 years and is very reliable. I've been using them for a couple of years now and recently had a 90K service, as well as a stage 1 upgrade.

Light machine oil sprayed or paint brushed on every bolt head or thread you can get to - costs nothing and will save you hours and hours of time in the future.
