lost keys.. temporary immobilising idea?
 

Morning all.

My misses lost a set of my keys that were in her handbag...so she says.. and I was looking for a way to temporarily stop someone from starting my car.

They keys could be at home still..or could be at the shop she was last in... But I have no time to look for them before I go to work tonight.

I'm worried if they've dropped on the floor etc one of the little chavs round here would 100% know which car it is and go for a joy ride at midnight when I'm at work.. .

I was thinking would I be ok to pull a fuse. I was thinking maybe fuse 11. The ignition / airbag.
Would it be ok leaving that out all night or would I run into problems when I stuck it back in, what with my alarm system etc?

I know its not exactly a good fix, but It's only temporary whilst I'm suffering going to work until I can get a new frequency done on my alarm.
I was going to stuff a blown fuse in its place...at least then it won't only not make it so obvious if the little 17 year old chavs guess it was a fuse...but they'd also need a replacement and a pair of pliers to get the ******* out.

Any other ideas are much welcomed.
Gonna get a steering lock after work too

The answer to The OP was to be pm'd so not to cause any security issues to him or any other user!

So what year and car is it?

If its an Impreza with a Sigma alarm, standard on some years of UK models. an you know the PIN code, that can disable the remote fob immobiliser. Obviously wont stop people getting in and trying to start, and the alarm would sound when the doors are opened


EDIT: just noticed what you read about alarm frequency, so you are on the right tracks.

Just remove the battery and put it in a secure place (i.e not in the car or garage).

How many thieves carry a 15kg battery with them?

PS, you can delete remotes on TOADs and Sigmas, but it needs the PIN

Note; installation manuals for most common alarms have been in the public domain for YEARS and can be easily found via google, therefore there is no point in trying to hide them.

if its the same security system as mine you can remove all keys from the system and just re-program the 1 key you have back onto it. you will need your pin code and handbook

But yes it is indeed a toad alarm.
I thought you had to get one of their people to come round and reset the alarm so the fobs all stop working... And so the lost one would no longer open the doors and instead set the alarm off....then pay them a fortune?


So I can reset it myself? I do have a code on a card I stapled to my cars main manual. How do I go about it?


WHat with only having one fob I don't want to cock it up and be left with none! :-\

I'm liking ali b's battery idea ...but I wouldn't fancy carrying it round Sainsburys either hehehe
