20lt Andy, foam filled :) same as the jerry cans. I'll probably have to refill after 2 sessions. It's easily quarter of the weight of the original tanks. I've gotta get some scales to work out the exact saving

GezP 19 October 2014 07:10 PM

Not much of an update as I'm hopping next weekend will be a big one. Hopefully most of the rear will be done :)

The boot inside got is last coats
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...pspk4f4j75.jpg

And today the underside got a few little touch ups and just testing and positioning where the new tank will go.

We're going to weld in a bar to support the tank and also double up as a chassis brace :)

proper mate :)

GezP 28 October 2014 09:24 PM

Over the weekend Tim was down and we got a good lot done. Made some good progress :)

First job was to weld in a supporting bar for the fuel tank which doubled up into a chassis brace.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...ps77f3wha4.jpg
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psrbyuludk.jpg

We also put in another bar as a rear brace. Trying to make the car as solid as possible. I even had another go at the welding :) after Tim had checked and cleaned it up, it didn't look too bad.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5hhy6m37.jpg
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...pslzuuf69b.jpg

After all the welding etc we started reassembling the rear underside. All the new hardened bushes went in and all the new parts including the new bearings and hardrace bits.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psv2bqsxdz.jpg

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psynws3pym.jpg
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psmiopqvz1.jpg

After I've cleaned and painted all the welding we should be able to finish the rear and move onto the front :)

The other day I noticed some slight light rust coming through on a spare set of front hubs that I had left over from the 6speed conversion. Ooddly it hasn't happened on the diff and rear hubs but just to be double safe I took the rear hubs off and gave them a few coats of POR15 top coat.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psuqgzwm40.jpg

During the week I was able to get everything painted, couldn't wait to take off the protective film :)

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psj2g8v4ih.jpg

A bit glossy but I preferred the matt finish inside to match the paint. Very happy with the finished paint job.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0tivirmc.jpg

Started working out the fuel lines. The rubber lines from the pump and the return are only temporary. When I get around to the interior all lines will be replaced.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...ps4oe86ksl.jpg

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psfklk73te.jpg

couple of grommets for connecting back to existing lines

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...pslxyl3xya.jpg

Hopefully have the rear finished this week so we turn the car around and start on the front :luxhello:

:lol1: might have the underside done. All depends if I paint the engine bay. The engine might as well come out as everything else at the front is :)

So over the weekend we got quite a bit done, even though the car looks worse off now.

Pretty much finished the fuelling side bar a few loose ends. We also got the back suspension pretty sorted.

New harder 12 springs on the rear BC's, new bearings, adjustable drop links, bushed and a load of the painted parts.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psu6dvi6pg.jpg
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...pssqvyjsp7.jpg
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...pscthc7o2s.jpg
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...ps2dn5kprj.jpg
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...pshsqochxr.jpg

Still a couple of other parts needed like the rear diff brace and I've also gotta to plan the new exhaust.

The next job was to start dismantling the front underside. To make life easier and to do it properly we've taken out the engine and gearbox so they can also have some TLC

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psksvbuiwm.jpg
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psxore0r1e.jpg

Check out the corrosion on the block from just a year. I had the block blasted when we rebuilt it :(

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psxev80aqy.jpg

I've now got another garage full of parts to clean, paint or bin. The plan is to get the rest of the front out next weekend and fingers crossed all back over Xmas :)

AWG 17 November 2014 11:32 PM

What's the plan with the block then matey, as I know you won't be able to leave it like that :norty:

GezP 17 November 2014 11:37 PM

Tbh I'm probably not gonna do much. I'm gonna change the inlet and re-wrap the headers. Maybe a little cheap up and clear cam covers. Main reason it's off is to have clear easy access to everything else. I was thinking if painting the gearbox but I'm now thinking if I can get it squeaky clean it would look better :)

AWG 17 November 2014 11:39 PM

Get it plated !

You happy with the brake set up?

What, the hole gearbox???

I think so, I've been told the rear brembos will be enough. I think with the right pads they'll work well. I've always been happy with the front k-sports so fingers crossed it's enough

Looking forward to seeing this once done :thumb:

GezP 18 November 2014 12:03 AM

Lol

You sure will, once done I'm planning on putting it through it's paces :)

GezP 30 November 2014 08:50 PM

Traditional sunday night update :)

Last weekend we were able to get the rest of the front end dismantled. A lot of the parts are now off getting blasted and powder-coated

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psbuqkyqvt.jpg

Pretty much every little piece has come off and either being cleaned or cleaned. I've now got a house full of boxes with cleaned engine parts :)

The BC's came off as well but TBH I was pretty shocked of the state of them. The tops have been sanded down and are currently being painted.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psc5ehqesr.jpg

But these parts looked screwed :( gonna call Apex in morning

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psz5cytte8.jpg

As the gearbox was out I wanted to give it a good clean. Pretty much took half a day to get it all cleaned.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psy9qqgfe8.jpg

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...ps0t3rgr34.jpg

I knew, no matter how much I cleaned it the ally would never stay looking this good. So being a tart, I've painted it :)

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psjz1qc1s0.jpg

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psxen11nle.jpg
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...pspk5gnbhj.jpg

Only had the first couple of coats, I'll add another tomorrow. Dead happy with the result. Hopefully it'll stay that way :)

The front end parts have also started to arrive. Tim @ scoobyparts has come through again. Great service as always :thumb:

Front end bushes. I've also ordered the gearing bushes from Alan @ AS Performance which should arrive early next week.
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psuodavq97.jpg

Whiteline roll centre kit and rose joint front drop links
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psbvezlzh0.jpg

And probably my favourite part, the engine and box mounts :)
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psw1xfdxq3.jpg

So, this week is finishing off the small painting parts, clean the **** out of the engine bay and clean/paint the front underside.

Slowly but surely its getting there. The front end should all be ready to go back together before xmas :luxhello:

GezP 08 December 2014 02:39 PM

The gearbox had its final coat, looks much better in the day light

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...pslxrugjdk.jpg

While the gearbox and engine are out, its the perfect opportunity to scrub the engine bay and clean/paint the underside and gearbox tunnel.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...pseq4dqyit.jpg

A bit of touch up painting is needed but overall looks ok. I would of loved to of hard a minimalist painted bay but its hardly worth it with all the **** that needs to go back in.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...pskwe0afpd.jpg

Couldn't get any decent pics of the underside, should be able to get some good pics when on the lift :)

The gearing bushes arrived from Alan @ ASPerformance, looking forward to fitting these

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...pswhraiss3.jpg

I've had a few parts blasted and they've had a few coats of paint, ready to be fitted.

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psr91xx2vs.jpg
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psseczsm6j.jpg

I tried to save the top parts of the suspension but after cleaning them up it was obvious they were goosed. Bit the bullet and just replaced all of them

http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...psd6674b12.jpg
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8b555a50.jpg

Can't wait to feel these 14 springs :)

Hopefully have all the powder coating back next week and have the front re-assembled over xmas :luxhello:

AWG 08 December 2014 05:02 PM

Amazing how compact fmic's are these days ;)

Was you tempted to look inside the gearbox?

GezP 08 December 2014 05:14 PM

:lol1:

Gearbox is too complex for me. Tim opened and checked the gearbox a while back before we fitted it :) safe to say it's all working fine
