rear tyres after a month and a half!

hi all,

after picking my car up it needed new tyres on the back and i had them replaced, after a month of them being on, they was f**ked! i did just over 2000miles with them some of them being motor way mileage, most of them being town driving

with that in mind, there is something very wrong with the back end of my car! what are the 1st things i need to look at?

Could be that it has the wrong diff fitted? Or binding rear brakes? Was the wear even?

Ceck your camber and geometry setup.

matt077 02 January 2012 02:38 PM

the wear is even, they was like racing track tyres on the back :-0

i think there is something wrong with the rear shocks as seem ruff and loud when going over pot holes

Any idea when the suspension was changed, if it has been. I know the OEM shocks last about 5 years before giving up.

Worth having a look at the gearbox code, its easy to read on the side of the gearbox.

not a clue mate, i think they are passed it tho as when you go over a pot hole, it feels ruff/hard and bangs, also back end seems to wobble abit

Your shocks should last 100k+, I would be checking your rear bushes if you have that much movement at the back end, something isnt right.

Tony:)

rear trailing arm bushes 1st?

ianbott 03 January 2012 11:50 AM

If there was something worn then surely he would be experiencing uneven tyre wear but he says the wear is even?

Something very wrong there mate.
Things i'd be checking are:

All suspension components, leaking shocks etc

All rubber bushes for signs of wear/splits

Anti roll bar fixings/mounts

Wheel bearings/track rods

Finally after looking at all these things, if they seem ok then a 4 wheel alignment & geo check / adjustment.

Should keep you busy for a while.

Yeah you are right on the classics its about that much but on the new ages it is sooner.

It might be worth just taking the wheels off and putting them back on and tightening them like recommeneded in the manual. I remeber when I had some tyres put on they messed it up and caused me to have a blow out on the dual carrige way.

Other then that I'm all out of ideas.

matt077 03 January 2012 03:04 PM

well after fitting my front mount saturday, sunday i'm going to have a poke around the rear under the car and see what i can find
