which exhaust for STI

Hi everyone.
Before I start I have to say my english is not very well so sorry for any mistakes.:p
I'm new to the forum and new with subaru. I just bought 2004 STI standard and want to keep it quite standard. Don't want to change anything under the bonnet. Just ordered front splitter and mudflaps. Want to de-tango headlights and paint black- so simply modes.
Now- I was reading few posts but still don't know and the big question is: what exhaust? I love the car but the exhaust is to quiet. I had a wrx drive test before which had Japanise something exhaust on and it was simply beautifull! I'm looking for something what make it a bit louder with nice, low, burgle tone, somthing what make me feel hapy when driving slow to. Nothing to hardcore becouse I have not to friendly MOT station :D. I will be grateful for help. Thanks

Just fit a deresonated centre section with a prodrive back box, available cheap used. Gives a nice sound but not to loud.

I have a Japspeed exhaust. Great quaily with nice sound. Loud enough to get noticed but not get you into trouble. If you go turbo back with the 100cell sport cat you will need a re-map.

skibav6 29 December 2011 06:53 PM

Yeah I dont want to remap too. If I go for back box only I get what I want?

Just found Afterburner Vortex Exhaust in not bad price. Will it be good?

Kedlestone 29 December 2011 07:55 PM

Ninja 2 back box gets my vote, instant transformation from my standard one.

I think I'll go for Afterburner Vortex. It got good reviews on Scoobyworld. I could buy used one but can not find any in good condition and price. Afterburner Vortex- good choice?

jh1-2009 31 December 2011 10:58 AM

Yes should be fine. You looked on e bay?

skibav6 31 December 2011 11:08 AM

This is what I wanted to hear :D. Is your decat?

Dave Y 31 December 2011 01:20 PM

prodrive sports cat thats all.

I went from a standard to Ninja and was dissapointed - not enough noise.
Then changed to full Vortex with deresonated section - very happy.
Then changed to Blitz Nur R with Prodrive sports cat and decat - Simply fantastic.

Hello

When u start changing exhaust middle and rear box
Does the ecu get confused as there is more flow for exhaust gases :)

IIRC, you will need a remap if you change the whole thing, from turbo back. A back box change is fine and I think the centre section is ok too (that`s what I`m doing soon).

That exhaust looks sweet
Let me know how sounds when done
I'm installing 4 gauges next week (prosport)
Hope to get it done within 2 days
Please don't rain ;)

Decision made! Im gona go for Afterburner Vortex Rear Silencer only and will see. Hope will be hapy if not 100% go for middle section. I'll let you know how it sounds. The bad think is Im so busy next week and not sure I'll have time to fix it but can not wait! wow
Thanks for help guys!

skibav6 18 January 2012 10:20 AM

Ok. Just to let know for all interested. Finaly the silencer came in yesterday, fited today morning and I have to say it is briliant sound! It is loud but god haw nice this loud is! Im not sure but I feel like car is a bit quicker now. I know it gave just few hp (almost 10bhp as say scoobyworld) but this angled exit so got straight pipe. Any way I recommend it for anyone. :thumb:
