Standard Brembo vs 8 Pot Calipers
I have now had my bug sti mapped and she made 355bhp so the normally s**ty discs an pads just dont cut it no more.
Are the big gold 4 pot brembo's still fine but i buy decent discs and pads or for the money im gunna spend is it worth me getting bigger discs and 8 pot calipers? whos running what on there cars? what do people reccommend? |
If you are looking spend money on 8pots,i would have look for Performance Friction Disc and PF pads,contact Alyn@AS Performance(here stockar)

Will you be tracking it? If not, I really don't see the point.
Will you be going that much faster on public roads that you need race spec brakes to slow you down? :thumb: 350bhp is not a mega amount of power and only 30 or so more than what the Brembos were designed to stop when fitted at the factory. Just fit some new standard discs, pagid pads, braided brake lines and replace the brake fluid. You'll be amazed at the difference. If you intend on going closer to 400bhp then may be reconsider. :thumb: |

On a budget, the EBC blue stuff range isn't bad - I run these on my K-Sport 8 pots, although 9 months on I'm noticing a few issues with pad deposits that is worrying me having read a few posts on the NDX pads breaking up under hard braking. Orange stuff is the newer compound that you may find is better. I've also heard very positive reviews on Carbotech and, if you're not short on funds, Performance Friction pads and discs will sort you right out - probably better going for a set of those than changing to an aftermarket kit. Disc wise I wouldn't go for standard discs - the problem with all standard discs on the scoobs is that they overheat and allow pads to glaze up, and this ends up resulting in virtually no brakes after a few hard stops - which is effing scary! Ian Godney's offerings are certainly better than standard and very cost effective. 5.1 brake fluid and some braided hoses won't hurt. I think DBA discs are supposed to be pretty good too. |
Has anyone tried the Carbonne Lorraine pads RC5+/RC6/RC6 endurance, Ive heard nothing but good reviews on them but there doesnt seem to be many people using them??

i got K-SPORT 8pots on the front and 4pots on the rear all with 330mm dics on my classic sti, brembos are awsome but i went for the k-sport because i didnt want to part with well over a grand for secondhand brakes, and i agree with bug eye scoob you prob be better with discs and pad upgrade ;)

But have OE gold Brembo's, with HEL braided lines, PF 2 piece discs with PF Z rated pads, all round. They stop the RB well enough... Bloody great in fact! Just a shame PF don't make rear discs for the Impreza.... |

I have the AP 4pots and godspeed 2 piece discs and godspeed discs on the back, not sure what pads are in as they were on when i bought the car, but they don't half scrub the speed off on my blob, time after time no fade and stand it on it's nose, and without braided lines too, but i shall be popping some on soon and 5.1 fluid just to be sure, only waiting till these pads need changing.
As said by others good pads and discs make a big difference, i have the godspeed groved discs with blue stuff pads on my type r with standard subaru 4 pots and that worked much better than the previous arrangement. Give ian @ goodspeed a call and go through the various options with him, he's a top chap and gives good advice and excellent service. :thumb: |
Uprated disks and carbotech XP8 pads on the brembo's will do the job nicely :D

I went for Godspeed two piece discs on front with Kevlar pads then next service will fit Godspeed rear discs and Kevlar pads to match, I find them ok for road use

thats great thanks people the only thing i didnt wanna do is upgrade the discs and pads and then 6 months down the line do more engine work and have to go bigger on calipers and then when some discs and pads are nearly the same money as bigger calipers

I'm running 8pots K-Sport with DS2500 and rear K-sport 6pots 330mm with DS2500 and Hel braided lines and must say stopping power its just astonishing,if i comparing with old setup(4pots with EBC NDX),i can say don't bother with 4pots upgrade and save money on better calipers(Brembo,K-sport etc) and discs...
If mine discs go down i'm looking upgrade mine with PF discs and PF pads,nothing more Jura |

For your power level and road use, get PF discs and pads. Jobs a good un.
The only worthwhile step up from that is AP 6 pots IMHO. The daddies, but cost an arm and a leg.... and a testicle! ;) :D Arguably over-kill for this application. |
I ran standard brembos with cheap pads at donnington and was surprised they worked. Admittedly they melted, but while they worked they were better than my evo's standard brembos. I've now upgraded for the Ksports so remains to be seen how they perform on the track.

How much life is left in the stock Brembo's disc's and pads Gava??
If the discs are still good/flat/true I think the braking can be improved with just a better pad (Carbone Lorraine RC6 or PF01 as just an example) If the discs and pads are beyond usable now could be the time to upgrade to 8 pots (but factor in an upgraded pad, the KSport stock ones are awful,the Ds2500 is mediocre in my opinion for the money, and the PF01 not available in 330mm fitment,according to Ksport.co.uk ). By that time you are looking at 8 pots, and uprated pads (Carbotech AX6/XP8)which will set you back around 850/900 quid. For that kind of money you can also buy upgraded 2 piece discs (Godspeed @ 350 quid and something like a CL RC6/PF01/Pagid Blue pad @ 200 quid, and keep 300 to 350 quid in your pocket, which will be more then enough for anything you can throw at it. If you use Godspeed 1 piece discs @ 122quid you'll even save more money,which can be pocketed (or If you are anything like me, spent on other upgrades) |

I believe he has 2 piece discs on offer as well - give the guy a ring, he's a top bloke. It'll cost more for better discs and pads, but then you'll be able to stop when you need to! |

They're made up with a bell housing, with the rotor bolted to it.
This means the disc is lighter, with less heat transfer between the hub & disc, thus less prone to warping. PF 2 piece discs Attachment 56148 Attachment 56149 |
the main improvement with the PF set-up is the fact it is "floating" rather than simply being 2piece..............
and the rotors are fully heat-treated at the factory, pretty much the ONLY manufacturer that does this!! alyn |

At 355bhp your hardly going to be maxing out your standard Brembos, there a good Caliper and with some lines, disks and pads are as good as alot of aftermarket stuff out there...
Id be carefull with aftermarket brake kits, keep in mind the cost and availability of disks and pads when they need replacing.. Id stick with the Brembos and mess around with Disks etc etc... all imo |

I would have thought that if you stick massive brakes on the front then you would surely have to have adjustable brake bias as the rears would no longer match??....

I went for the 330mm kit so it's not a huge amount bigger. I uprated the pads on the rear to match, and run a set of Ian's grooved discs at the rear. For 350ish bhp, I'd agree that it's better to stick with the OEM Brembos and buy a decent set of discs, pads, and braided lines and fluid. Anyone I've spoken to that runs PF discs say they're unbeatable. |

I have standard Brembos with PF pads and they are a good combo for my 342/362 but I will think about upgrading next time round a) due to cost b) more importantly in the next year to 2 years I want 450/450 and some time on track with it all.
