Tesco Momentum 99 or V-Power

Hi Guys

Just wandering if there is any real differences in running the 2 above?
Is there a big diffence or they the same?
Will the telco cause any damage or performance related problems?

I have a blob eye 06 STI standard.

Thanks.

neil

chopperman 24 December 2011 08:03 PM

Both 99ron so will cause no damage. I use both and have never noticed a difference to be honest.
My bet is shell is a better fuel because of the additives but its also more expensive.

poolio74 24 December 2011 08:06 PM

Both good fuels mate.should have no probs.Just suck it and see as some cars prefer different fuels,my 05 blob runs well on both, but i used to have a uk classic that hated v power?would only run well on esso super.random i know but true i tells yer:wonder:

Kezzo80 24 December 2011 08:06 PM

I've been told that momentum99 has better knock detection but I really couldn't say for sure if thats true.

Personally I always use Vpower, and don't see the benefits in 1-2p a litre saving on using fuel made for a supermarket!

jaygsi 24 December 2011 08:08 PM

Tesco fuel noticed less pickup, only run on shell.

markb5888 24 December 2011 08:50 PM

glad someone has asked this, as i live 2 mins from tesco, but have to always drive 6-mile round trip to fill up on v-power, so am going to try my car on tesco momentum now and see how it goes

JonMc 24 December 2011 08:53 PM

I use both depending on which is most convenient when I need a top-up, not noticed any difference between the 2 TBH.

Simmy2011 24 December 2011 09:34 PM

Thanks guys
JayGSI sorry if this sound stupid what do you mean by less pick up?

orangeman 24 December 2011 09:36 PM

What does your handbook say ? You cant over do the octain only under-do. If in doubt use v-power or tesco99

scottie wrx 24 December 2011 09:57 PM

I wouldn't reccomend tescos fuel, I got error codes comin up with it, v power all the way

dont put normal unleaded anywhere near an import, will end in tears, as mapped for jap fuel, v power or momentum only

Used both never noticed any difference. just that tesco is 3p less and you save about £2 on a complete tank fill up.

orangeman 24 December 2011 10:16 PM

Cool been putting vpower in it since iv owned it but dnt know about the owner before me

Deffo super unleaded mate.. V power is excellent, telco momentum is v good, just depends which is closer, don't use regular unleaded in a jdm sti :)

We run ours on v power. Tried telcos and it seemed to run even smoother if anything .... But then the stuff is rarely available from our local so I don't bother as I can't rely on getting any. We now use v power exclusively, the car (sti v3) loves the stuff :)

So hardly worth worrying about when the car only does 20mpg anyway! :thumb:

jh1-2009 25 December 2011 10:55 AM

I use both. I have 2 shell garages and a tesco within 3 miles of my house..

NOSSY_89 25 December 2011 01:36 PM

v power is the fuel I use. I noticed a slight difference with supermarket fuel the quality just doesn't seem to be there.

ScoobySteve69 25 December 2011 04:06 PM

Apparently they`re the same fuel. The only difference is V Power has additives.

marcevs72 25 December 2011 04:18 PM

have used tesco in my current import and my last uk car and never had any probs, have run spot on when on rollers etc.the difference in price where i live is 10p a litre more for v-power and i live 750 metres from tesco so easy choice really.

NOSSY_89 25 December 2011 05:00 PM

lol the tesco that sells their petrol is so far away but not sure on the price. The shell is just down the road but v power ain't cheap.

cookie sti 25 December 2011 05:06 PM

when i run the wifes scoobs on tescos it feels as if it holds back more then on V power so i always head off a little further for v power if i know the car will be driven enthusiastically otherwise usual day to day its run on tescos

This raises an interesting point here. I have just picked up a Turbocharged Mercedes with 27,000 miles on the clock. It says use 98 ron only but like you have no idea what the previous owner used. If they had used cheaper 95 petrol could there be any issues further down the line or would the problem have presented its self more immediately?

lordharding 25 December 2011 05:53 PM

Used tesco super for the last 8 years in my classic turbo
No problems and 250 per tank every time

brocksta 25 December 2011 07:27 PM

have both close to me so i use either, but i seem to get better mpg with momentum.

Turbotits 25 December 2011 07:38 PM

I use either as there both close to me. On pure petrol i find very little difference. Odd to say but when i mix with meth i find i get a better response with the tesco stuff

Jimbob 25 December 2011 08:42 PM

Data sheets for both.
Me I use Tesco99 as its 7ppl cheaper.

Re your question about whether our 99 octane fuel is “95 Ron + additives”, the answer is a definite no. Our 99 octane petrol is blended separately from 95 octane fuel, using raw materials that have been specifically chosen to meet the higher product specification. Of course, the additive package is different too.

Hope this answers your question.

i use momentum and v power, shell is closer (3 miles away) than tesco (6 miles away, but 10p cheaper)

i have never had a problem with either, but i have spoken to a couple of tuners/mappers. and they say tesco fuel suffers from 'random det'. i have seen this on a few occasions on the rollers too. 2 different mappers even knew it was tesco in the tank cos of it.

tesco has come out best in a couple of independant tests, but if mappers say you get random det and i've seen it proved.

addi monster 27 December 2011 09:40 PM

thats true dave as it was my car on the rollers that was detting due to the fuel, both guys said momentum was known as random det so i try to keep to v power,.

TurboAndy 27 December 2011 10:47 PM

If your car has been mapped on V-Power then it will run a tad better on that than Tesco etc.
