Newage UK STI's not on V-Power
Are the Newage UK STI's okay being run on standard unleaded?

No really no. You can do it if its an emergency, perhaps its the only fuel you can get at 3 in the morning or something, and you don't boost the car (use the turbo) at all.
But the car MUST be run on either V-Power, Tesco 99, or Super Unleaded 97 at the very least. Run it on 95 octane and you'll have a damaged engine pretty quickly. |
Yep as standard. Although you wont get the best from it. A modded or ppp car should be run on super. Athough id choose to run any impreza on super for safety and best power.

DON'T run it on 95 for god sake, you'll kill the engine, it'll knock like buggery and then die!!!

our hawk sti company hack has done 80k ish hard, many different driver miles. never had any special fuel since i bought it . it will run till it dies . our hawk wrx has done 120k
the same . you are welcome to drive either and they still run like a swiss watch . |
Surely the Denso ECU will pull ignition and reduce the IAM.......car will run less power but should survice.
If it's been mapped then the margin of safety has been pretty much erroded and would likely det. Shaun |

i just use monentum 99 its cheaper than v power and my car runs better

And even running good stuff isn't fool proof, the standard map/setup can be a loooooong way off sometimes, i've just started logging mine, and i've seen knock and timing pulled while running Tesco's 99... |
It only has to run on high octane stuff to take full advantage of performance gains. 95 Ron will not harm the engine. Just won't be as quick.

if its standard then it can run on 95 if messed around with 97+.i ran my last uk car on 99 from tescos as was only 1p dearer than normal unleaded and provides a bit more protection.

If you love your car and want it to last then use the highest octaine fuel available. Those who say lower octaine wont harm don't know what they're talking about. Sure the ecu will retard to compensate but only by a few degrees, this may not be enough. You may only get a knock problem on one cylinder due to that one being hotter, slightly higher compression ect ect.
I have a forged piston in my tool box i kept from a race bike i once built. The highest ron in the uk at the time was 97. I knew i had a det problem and tried everything to solve it. The weekend i solved it by turning the accelerator pumps on earlier was the weekend it let go. The damage was done already !. When i stripped the engine 3 out of the 4 cylinders were perfect. #3 was a mess . If i get time i will photograph the piston and post (if your interested that is). |
youi can run 95 if mapped for it, if not mapped for it stay on vpower or tesco 99

It will det on 95 ron fuel if you push the car, it wont det just a little, you will hear it, so the conclusion is not to run it on 95 ron fuel if you can help it, if you do add 95 ron then keep it low in the rev range and dont push it.

no head gasket or other mechanical issues, driven lots of sti's, as we have lots in at work
if our car showed 30k you would believe it and it feels on par with any ive driven . no noticeable drop in power . its our car and its our choice to put what we want in it . we wont sell it as run on v power either . our 53 sti blob is still going strong with 160k given to a staff member ,only ran on v power when i had it as my personal car to 27 k .then 95 std fuel till now , that has a ppp by the way. |
sorry tony , i know what det is and if what you say is true why is our sti still ok , its driven by my staff and im sure they dont drive it like miss daisy as i certainly dont.

Personally i love my scoob and it always gets the best. Only once did i have to put 97ron in it because that was the best i could get on a long trip and i was low on fuel. I put 2 bottles of millers in the tank, drove it off boost then filled up with 99 ron once i came across a shell station. But that's just me :thumb: |

In a worse case scenario you can run 95 to get you to your next fill with decent stuff. Unless mapped for it I wouldn't recommend running it on a regular basis and I certainly wouldn't be giving it a hard time whilst on 95. Martyn |
It says in the my subaru hand book to run it on a minimum of 98 octane, so who am i to argue with that?
That and also a local guy to me just had to have a bottom end rebuild, the subaru dealer asked him what fuel he was running it on, he replied with 95 octane :cuckoo: That was on a 2003 STI UK. Make up your own mind if thats related or not. |
I'm or Subaru would never be able to sell a car in the uk if they were not capable of running on 95 Ron.
