3 port boost solenoid

my car is a 99 turbo 2000 its currently got a 2 port boost solenoid fitted to it but was told when i get a remap will need a 3 port on will a standard 3 port boost solenoid do the job of a sti i think.also where does the top port go to as mine only has two on the bottom

that is a good guide cheers mate so a standard 3 port will do the job then where abouts is the turbo outlet nipple in that top pipe then as the bottom 2 go to the same place on 3 port dont

The 3-port's top port connects to the bleed nipple on the outlet spout of the turbo compressor housing.

The 3-port's middle port goes to the turbo's wastegate actuator housing's nipple.

The 3-port's bottom port goes to the bleed return port on the large turbo intake pipe (under the inlet manifold) - or simply left VTA. (If left VTA, then you need to plug that intake port with something suitable, like a screw.)

This (very) rough :lol1: diagram might help you visualise it better:-

Does a std 3 port boost soloneid run better than a 2 port and what was the reason they changed from the 2 to 3 port?

joz8968 01 November 2014 08:16 PM

Cripes, this thread is a blast from the past. ;)

3-port is supposed to control boost better. Don't really know what the reason is though.

Actually, it was the first MY93-96 "phase 1" cars which were fitted with the 3-port. Then from MY97, all are fitted with a 2-port, AFAIK.

But at OEM boost pressures at least, the 2-port works just fine, anyway.

Can I just swap the 2 port straight to a 3 port set up

I think you have to have it mapped in, for it to work correctly.

Contact Simon @ Jolly Green Monster (well reknowned mobile mapper) - he'll give you the SP...

Will do :)

Bringing this back from the dead...
I'll be installing a 3port solenoid on an MY99, should I remove or keep the restrictor pill?
Thks.

Remove it but leave it until the map is done and the mapper will probably do it for you 10min job.

Tried it today... no remap, stock MY99 ECU: spikes at 1.16bar then lowers, I can't see how much I can only see the peak on freessm, but I feel it looses power.
No "pill" on the lines just followed joz8968's layout. I think with a proper remap this will probably be able to maintain the 1.1ish bar rill redline.
