Time for a rebuild

Right then, i need some luck.

After bearing failure on my Legacy i settled for a V4 STi lump mated to a VF22.

Now that has just started that goddamn rattle

This time it's going to be a strip down and rebuild.

I might as well go stroker for what it's worth so i have compiled a list of parts i require.

- ACL race bearings
- Forged crank, rods, pistons (part of stroker kit)
- Decent head gasket (Cosworth?)
- Uprated oil pump
- New modine
- New sump
- Heads skimmed
- Other bits relating to headwork (valve seating, etc, etc)
- ARP bolts

I'm sticking with the VF22 for the time being.

Anyway what should the bits above be able to take power wise 'reliably' and how much should i expect to pay for the lot built and installed.

Thanks in advance.

Are you running a single turbo conversion on a TT at moment is it?

Yes, all is now single. Basically a V4 STi engine in a Legacy shell.

Anyone?

I've been quoted between £3-4k for a 2.1 forged stroker rebuild in my semi-closed block.

KAS35RSTI 20 December 2011 11:29 AM

You need to add more info i.e what stroker kit you are going to use? How much power you expect to run & what you intend to use the car for?

banny sti 20 December 2011 11:45 AM

Gazza at GR Performance is very reasonable for 2.1 stroker kits, you could build this into your current block or look out for a closed deck block

MartynJ 20 December 2011 12:05 PM

2.1s are our speciality, feel free to give us a call for a quote.

Thanks for feedback guys I have someone to rebuild.

I'll be using the car for road use and maybe the odd high speed run.

Power wise high threes would be nice.

banny sti 20 December 2011 02:41 PM

Go 2.1 stroker, 550cc injectors, 3 inch exhaust, sc38 turbo and remap and you are there :)

jamesclark 20 December 2011 02:43 PM

dont know if you are interested i have short version 4 lump with forged bits for sale built by alan Jefferys

If you only want high 300's & dont intend on running more power then a Open deck block with a decent stroker kit & 11mm ARP headstuds should hold anywhere upto 500+. If you want to run more power in the future then i would personally future proof the build with a Closed deck block & 14mm headstud conversion. That way atleast you have piece of mind knowing you have proper built short motor & with the right stroker kit it will hold 600+.

Obviously it all comes down to how big the bank balance is :norty:. Thats just the short motor covered

Shaid 20 December 2011 03:30 PM

Thanks Kas will an Open Deck manage a reliable low 4's?

jamesclark 20 December 2011 03:38 PM

Yes no problem with the correct internals intercooler turbo etc

Shaid 20 December 2011 03:43 PM

Brilliant.

Thanks guys.

Ye easily. Safest level would be 450 but some people have managed over 500+. Depends what you want. Power bug is a bad addiction, who knows.. In the near future you may want more........... :brickwall

Future proof for me certainly.
