182 alternative?
need to oust my ST170, just too long in the tooth and now has nearly 94k...been thinking of replacing it with a 182 for ages but now it comes to putting my money where my mouth is I'm getting French build quality sweats :lol1:
Any ideas? Ian |
What about a mk6.5 fiesta ST or Zetec S if you don't fancy french?
|
182 is so much fun to drive and the Fiesta doesn’t even get close to that...and the ST Fiesta seems common as muck in my neck of the woods too :wonder:

ive a low 50k example one owner ive had problems one after the other still got them avoid like the plague ill never buy french again gonna sell as soon as i can:mad: |
I had a MKII 172. It was a piece of sh!t. Had it back to the dealers more times than I can remember. Vowed never to buy another Renault again.
However, more rumor's of a Clio Williams is making me thing twice. I really am starting to get an itch to own a Hot Hatch again. By September next year we should have:- - Clio Williams - ****e build quality, asthmatic A/c System, but should be brilliant to drive. - VW Polo R - 210bhp. Good build quality, and should be quite fun. Just not as fun as the Clio. - Audi S1 - 220BHP and AWD. Good build quality, but could be dull to drive. A1 may look a little girly. |
What about that cup version of the Clio with the sachs dampers ... Evo Mag loves it!

There's a buyers guide in this months Evo. |
lol you lot are making it harder to justify...Nick what sort of issues did you encounter?
TX that’s a Trophy; no ABS and I want ABS for a daily hack. stilover they remind me a bit of a bread van that has been driven through a Rip speed catalogue :D |

Type R see bread van comment :D Cupra\Focus; don't want another blown car...I'll be too tempted to fiddle with it; one money pit is enough :brickwall Ta though :) Heres a thought; how much are Dc5's...? :luvlove: |
Still wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more than they should be Ian. Do love them though.
I had a CTR from new for 3 years and it was a good drive. Plenty of grip, quick when in VTec. Lack of turque was a PITA as a daily driver though. What's your budget mate ?? |
DC5's still pricey, DC2's are nice and raw though mate, look a lil dated tho
p.s. clio 172/182's low boost turbo /supercharger conversions are pretty cheap lol so if modifying is in your blood, i think u'll find them hard to resist. if going civic type r, make sure it's k-pro'd, totally transforms the car as a daily driver. |
Boyd, don't really want to spend more than £4k as I still have a chunk of cash to through at the wagon before it moves again...but could probably be persuaded to spend a little more if something shiny catches my eye ;)
Bad Eggy, one money pit is more than enough, I'm happy to carry out a few cosmetic mods but mechanically it needs to remain standard :p |
hell fire, just checked autotrader and DC5s are super expensive for what they are :o
