Avoid this car!

Bit of a heads up as i almost got caught out with this one!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-Imp...item3cbf72a9d3

On the face of it it looks a good buy but:

1) he originally tried to sell it to me as having a simtec, I spotted the maf still connected and he back-tracked to say it was ecutek'd

2) Would a VF28 with maf still connected make 400bhp :Whatever_

3) The bodywork was shocking, scratches everywhere and rust patches on sills etc, wheels were patchy, interior scratched to f~~k

4) Its an open deck stroker so again 600bhp capability?? I checked with Martyn via pm and a limit of 450-500bhp would be more appropriate

5) The standard 5 speed box was present and the diff was mega whiney

Just a heads up to save a wasted journey if your going from those quoted figures :thumb:

Paul, I thought you got one off David?? or are you starting a "collection"....

averyp2 12 December 2011 01:38 PM

I did, and thats a gem ;-)

This was the one I got stung with and lost a deposit on before David sorted us out

CREWJ 12 December 2011 01:41 PM

That sucks, on face value it looks like a nice motor.

NOSSY_89 12 December 2011 01:56 PM

Hate it when people do crap like that because if you hadn't done loads of research you wouldn't have known. The average enthusiast wouldn't have spotted some of that, I don't think I would have.

averyp2 12 December 2011 01:59 PM

True, good job i have a few mates 'in the know' to give me a few pointers.

Don't want it to come across as sour grapes because i lost my deposit, just trying to give a heads up to those who may have seen it and been interested.

Fulmentaljack3t 12 December 2011 02:02 PM

I wouldnt have spotted any of that stuff or even known any of it and would have ended up being stung. Sadly the world is full of people who like to take advantage of others usually under some pretence of offering something good or doing you a favour.
I hope someone see's this before buying this car.

It doesn't come accross that way at all. Its a good thing you posted this. I know quite a few people on here that are looking to buy a Scooby and they have been asking loads of questions etc.

You shouldn't have lost your deposit if it wasn't as described.

readvertised due to timewaster.
Which was clearly him :)

Fulmentaljack3t 12 December 2011 02:08 PM

Did you raise a complaint with Ebay to get your deposit back?

averyp2 12 December 2011 03:28 PM

It was advertised on Autotrader, I was going to go the small claims route but to be honest the hassle of it all was too much what with my work load and other commitments so i took it as a hard lesson learnt.

:-) Galifrey yes i am the 'timewaster'

L&G.scooby 12 December 2011 03:33 PM

Better to be the timewaster than to own something you don't really want or need.

Apologies I read "him" as meaning me doh!

tubbytommy 12 December 2011 06:57 PM

says set up by engine tuner on the boot, wonder if it really was??

happydude303 12 December 2011 07:11 PM

the thing that get me is 400 hp ona vf turbo that just cant be right

averyp2 12 December 2011 07:41 PM

Exactly, but he conveniently forgets to mention what turbo and that it's a standard gearbox. I test drove it and it felt like a 320bhp car to me, a ropey one at that.
Alan at enginetuner confirmed they had built an engine for a bloke with this car but they did not for it and Alan could not verify it had been installed in that car.

In fairness I didn't word it well :D

Kwik 13 December 2011 11:02 AM

Hmmm, couldn't we take the moral high-ground with this. Just bid £10,000, wait for it to end then email him saying until its listed properly his auction will be hijjacked. Ebay will take an interest if he's false advertising.
