Been thinking of a while of changing my Hawkeye WRX for a STI.

Now I do not like the hatch so a Hawkeye STI is the one I would go for.

The issue I have is whether it is worth it or not.

To date I have done the following to my WRX.

Whiteline rear ARB
Whiletine Anti Lift Kit
Tein Coilovers
18" Rota Alloys
Upgraded Fuel Pump
Andy Forrest Ecutek Remap
STI Hawkeye Dials/Speedo
Full exhaust with Sports Cat
Upgraded Grooved Discs with Bluestuff Pads

Car drives well with about 285/340, the Torque is fantastic.

Now the reasons I am looking at the STI are, in my eyes -

6 Speed Box
Better Standard Suspension
Better Turbo
Should be more resilinat to further tuning??
Nicer Seats
DCCD
Better Brakes
Love the rear spoiler

So I am left with a hard choice.

I can get the seats, Spoiler, Brakes ( or do I need the hubs also) from the numerous cars breaking.

The 6 Speed box from my previous car I realy miss, especially on the motorway but they are way too much money and effort to upgrade mine to one.

I have spent a fair amount on mine but have no issue with this if the STI will be the one for me.

Is a hard choice - What you all think?

The STI I am looking at is tottaly standard so will, as I see it, a slower car in its standard form - Especially the torque. Obviously I will get some work done on it as always.

Cant you take some of the mods off your wrx and put it on the sti ?

Not really sadly for the most expensive stuff.

The suspension is different.

The wheels are differed pcd.

Go for a JDM STI, so much better.

Go for it, you only live once! (unless you are a Hindu like me, but thats another subject lol)

i went from a hawk wrx to a hawk sti and dont regret it for 1 moment, do it or you will allways be thinking, what if..

The suspension being "better" on the UK Hawk STI is a matter of opinion. The ride is rock hard, making it jumpy on uneven surfaces. Still understeers a fair bit too, so you'll need to uprate the rear ARB.
As previously mentioned, be sure to go JDM.
That way you have a far better car out of the box and far more capable.

Having had a think about it I just do not think it is worth it for me.

For not that much money I can get the STI seats, genuine rear spoiler and pretty much have the same car and performance, just missing the 6 speed box.

Bigger turbo and Intercooler would see me with more power if I fel I need it, which at present I do not for a daily driver.

that 5 speed box is always in danger of going boom, torque is the killer. But if you happy with around 330-340hp and similar torque you "should " be ok
Ps what brakes you got on the wrx, because the standard red subaru brakes aint very good even with grooved discs etc

you havent got the same car at all with a wrx, drive an sti and you will see.
if your happy with your wrx, which does sound a nice one then keep it but dont fool yourself its the same car as an sti

I have the standard WRX brakes with Grooved discs and Bluestuff NDX pads, they are a millions miles better then when I got the car, the Bluestuff pads and discs make a huge difference.

What would you say I am missing out on?

6 speed box ratios make it accelerate better, brembos are going to stop you better, engine has more power out of the box, dccd, better suspension set up.
its the usual my wrx is as good as an sti argument.
in your mind it is but in reality an sti is a better car all round.

it sounds like your trying to convince yourself, you have a nice specced wrx so if your happy with the performance and looks keep it , but if your going to spend all the money on sti parts just sell it and buy a real sti.

I know my car is not an STI and never will be one but I am looking at what the STI will give to me.

The 6 speed box I agree would be better for the motorway but some people do claim that the close ratios of the first few gears make the 5 speed a bit better from a point of a standing start.

Brembos are better but I can get them for £600 ish.

Engine has more power out of the box but my present WRX is quicker and so much more torque.

I have a coilover set up so not going to see benefit.

Just going over it in my head but when it comes down to it I am going to have to spend the following if I get an STI to get the same as I have just now.

£1200 on coilovers

£1200 on Wheels.

£500 for anti lift kit, rear bar and drop links.

£800 for sportscat and exhaust

£500 for remap

So over 4k on top of price on the STI so that is what has got me thinking.

Why not put your wrx back to standard and take most of the goodies with you to the STi

A remap on hawk STi will give you considerably more power and torque due to the vf43. Mine was near on 400lbs torque with the standard stuff, decat fuel pump etc. Didnt cost a whole lot.

If I could then I probably would - that is the issue.

The Wheels will not fit

The coilovers will not fit

The map is obviously not moveable

The exhaust might be able to move but I binned the standard one

so basically I would be back to start

get a cheap set of wheels and sell the expensive set, make a bit money back, you could always find a car thats already had most of the mods done, they tend not to be much more expensive unless they very high spec
