Wastegate Actuators??
00 Uk turbo.. Should i be able to move the actuator arm by hand when the car is not running?? It seems VERY stiff(ooh err!!) Im having boost problems (Fluctuation in 3rd,4th,5th between 10-15psi still) an im starting to think its to do with the actuator due to the stiffness.
So Far I have tried :- Cleaning Pipework to boost solenoid Cleaning boost solenoid while in "Test mode" Swapped boost solenoid with a known good one from pole position Checked for Restrictor Pill and correct location Checked for splits, leaks and pinches Still no joy!! The arm from the actuator has a bolt on it, which i assume is for adjustability on actuator spring pressure?? Could it be that it is too tight and causing an overboost situation?? This problem is startin to really get my goat now!! Any help will be great!! Am goin outside to gather some pictures to post!! |
id be more inclined to check boost / vacum pipes and the dump valve ( if u have one ) for leakage , splits , cracks etc
the actuator is quite stiff to move by hand yes , it moves easier when pressurised with air through the port if it was too stiff it would cause an overboost problem more than a fluctuating problem ? id say the dump valve is leaking under boost , or u have a loose pipe or split in a hose also clean the boost solenoid this may help |

Have tried the cleaning route and for splits and leaks. Had the guys at pole position have a look over the plumbing to the boost solenoid! Even with the engine running its tight as a nuns chuff to move it(wastegate arm!), the bolt is right at the end of its travel on the arm. looks a little bit rusty too! Bleedin cam batteries are flat at the minute!! Arrgh!! Thinkin ecu compensating for over boosting by backing off as it reaches 18-19 psi?? Causing a fluctuating feeling?? |

Even with the engine idling it would not change how difficult it is to move the actuator arm they are quite hard to move by hand, it only moves when the turbo is boosting fully.
To get to the y-pipe you need to get the Intercooler off , I reckon you have a leak in the boost control pipe work |
yes it sounds more like a boost solenoid/sensor issue or leak

cheers for the posts! Bleedin virgin has been down all day!! Had it checked over on sat an swapped the solenoid for a known good one. I really am at my wits end with this!!

the previous owner also fitted silicone hoses in the boost plumbing that are softer, balloon or choking effect possible?? Any thoughts??

Accept that you can't move the actuator arm by hand, but should it be possible to see it move when revving engine? Paul |
