money spent on a turbo 2000! :(

hey,

i was just sitting here, thinking how much my car is starting to cost me!

in 2010 end of the year i bought a MY98 S Reg turbo 106k miles hardly any service history but looked clean for £1400 with damage to the rear door and rear qurter which i wouldnt think was so bad! i have had that repaired for around 400 all in!, ive replaced the chocolate brakes with 4 pots! (total: £200 for calipers, £200 for discs and pads, £70 fitting!) i then replaced the exhaust with a decat system (£450 in total plus £60 for fitting!)

so far then the turbo 2000 i bought cost me near enough.. erm.. £2780, also when i had it getting all the stuff done it ran out of mot and tax lol typical eh! so thats another £200 ish..

so nearly £3000 so far on a turbo 2000, which i still need to get turbo, injectors, ecu, etc then remaped so i can get upto 300hp lol!

i know people spend 1000's+ on there cars etc but i just fancied a moan! because i didnt really have £3000+ to spend on a car but seems like i just have unintentionally!

:lol1: o well i guess you live and learn as they say!

welcome to the game

alternativly you could save your money for a forged build and do it all proper. once you get to 300hp youl just want more.

alcazar 09 December 2011 04:12 PM

Hate to tell you bud, but the 98 cars can't be mapped without an aftermarket ecu, that costs ££££'s.

NOSSY_89 09 December 2011 04:21 PM

Mate tax and mot is maintainance so its expense you can't really add to your total. These cars are expensive but so is any other car. Welcome to the world that is Subaru.

happydude303 09 December 2011 04:36 PM

they can be mapped now duncan has been doing them 550 for fitting and mapping the board

happydude303 09 December 2011 04:39 PM

p,s dont worry ive spent 10000 grand on my car not including the car and im just shy of 400hp and im planing on spending more on a new turbo and a set of coil overs so theres another 2300

lol, 3k is pocket money on an Impreza, but I know that people dont always have that sort of £.

I'm in a similar position, got my MY00 in April with 330bhp, FSH, all mods done professionally etc etc but then I wanted to put my own touches/mods on it and improve certain areas.

The engine then let go and I blew 2x VF35 turbo's due to oil starvation, front end mods, interior swap, lighting, wheels, brakes etc etc

Mine stands me at £4500+ and its still going, but i've done it a bit at a time. I dont have large lump sums available so I just do what I can when I can. I know 4.5k would buy me a better car, newage or sti etc but unfortunately that will never happen so i've taken a good base car and made it my own.

I'm in for over 10K so far, and if I could turn back the clock I'd do it all over again.
I love it, when the modding bug bites it bites hard.
400+ in a lightweight sorted classic, nothing will put a bigger smile on your face (well except maybe 500+ in a lightweight sorted classic, lol).

ive stoped counting, im now where in the same league as some of the builds on here, but at around 450 bhp in a classic, it does soon start to add up!

birchy2010 09 December 2011 05:33 PM

Lol i don't want to know how much mine has cost me. dread to think!

you can map a 98 ecu? when did this become available?! also what would be the point in doing that when i could buy an apexi for about 450 on ebay then spend the money on the remap would only come to around what 700-800 wouldnt that be the better option then just doing the standard ecu?? for 595+Vat!

That's life
Just spent £400 ona full service last week next year I have allocated up to £1000 to have the rear arches done. ,respayed and he might as well do the front bumper and rear when he is at it
Wheels need refurbished another £200- £250 and underseal £200
Clutch will eventually need doing as it is on 60k miles since new £400 and of course anything else that goes wrong

I've had it since new cost nearly 23k and worth now £2-£2500 -and planning to spend another £2000 to make it immacullate but it's my toy ,part of the family for over 11 years so I will never part with it
Subaru are built to last but they do cost ,they are bills you will all get in a few years time without spending money on modifications which apart from suspension and bushs and braided brake line s is all I've ever spent money on so is pretty standard

The ESL keeps all the standard sensors including knock control, 3d map, etc.

Effectively, you gain a JECS ecu that is live mappable, JGM fits and map these, have a word with him, he comes to you as well :)

You pay less that the Apexi, but get a much better ECU and that ECU will make good money if you want to sell it later.
